September 23, 200718 yr Hello, here I am again with complicated, long questions that people usually take the wrong way =p. I own both an Xbox and a copy of Halo 2, and some people have said before(when I downloaded a Nintendo 64 emulator and ROM) that if I own them, I am free to download or play all related material(or at least play it on an emulator on my computer). Now, I have to ask, I have searched to find Xbox emulators or ROMs, but all efforts have failed. I've seen on a random forum pulled up by Google, people ridiculing someone asking for a Halo or Halo 2 ROM. Is there any way to get one, or does technology not allow it? Did I just not search thoroughly enough? Secondly, I have downloaded a .iso file claiming it contains Halo 2, the game. How, exactly do I play it. I know(unless it can trick 10 or so professional virus scanners) that it has no viruses. September 23, 200718 yr First of all that myth isn't true. The biggest thing is that no one really cares about old emulators since the games aren't making any more money. Secondly an .iso file is nothing but a CD I believe. You should just be able to run it as is or burn it onto a CD. Finally an xbox emulator is really out of the question. What I don't get is why you don't just buy the game for PC, since it is out for it.
September 23, 200718 yr Author Thank-you Nadril, I was thinking that, but I needed confirmation. And I suppose you're right, I have enough money, I'll go out and buy Halo 3 in a few weeks. September 23, 200718 yr Well I believe there is an Xbox emulator but is no where near full speed so it will be choppy. I believe the new generation emulators (like the ps2 and xbox) can be played by you just putting the disk into your dvd drive. Newer systems don't use roms anymore, roms were for cartridge based games. .iso is used for any game on a cd/dvd now. An iso file is just an exact image of the original disk, which you could even get yourself from the original disk. I agree with Nadril if you want to play Halo so much, buy it for the computer or just play it on the xbox.
September 23, 200718 yr By the way, you definitely don't need to burn .iso files for games. Just use something like Daemon Tools to mount the image. Burning it is a waste of time and a CD.
September 23, 200718 yr By the way, you definitely don't need to burn .iso files for games. Just use something like Daemon Tools to mount the image. Burning it is a waste of time and a CD. PowerISO is better IMO but yeah, both do the job. You'll have to mount the iso file to a virtual drive and then it will run just like a cd. And yeah, you are legally allowed to download a ROM as long as you own the original game, as long as it's not redistributed at all and solely a backup for personal use, and if you sell the game, you have to destroy the backup. *strokes SNES roms*
September 24, 200718 yr Author Is there anybody who can completely walk me through the process of mounting an image file, or whatever I must do to play my .iso file? I have downloaded Daemon Tools, and when it browsed to look for an image file, I selected the .iso file: The spelling and grammar of that email was that of an 11 year old palestinian goatboy who is speaking english for the first timeQuite simply, Facebook craps on Myspace. September 24, 200718 yr ^^^^^ After you mount the image/ iso file it works as if you put a cd in the drive. You should have another cd drive in my computer.
September 24, 200718 yr Judging by your screen you're on XP, and you need Vista to run Halo 2. But I believe there's a program out there that allows Halo 2 under XP... Plus, is this actually legal? If you buy the xbox version are you legally entitled to the PC version aswell? Just a thought. This isn't technically emulation anymore. His file reads Halo 2 PC, meaning he has a copy of the actual Halo 2 DVD image.
September 24, 200718 yr Author Thanks for you're help, Mr_Putter, does anyone know what that program is called? And people have told me both, and I actually read the license user agreement to a ROM, and it said that I could use two, three, or as many as I wanted, but I could not sell them. Should I sell one, however, I must destroy the rest. I still have Halo 2, but seem to have...erm.... misplaced it. September 24, 200718 yr you need to download power iso, then just click "mount". essentially it tricks your computer into thinking it has an extra cd drive, so the virtual drive will run identically to a physical cd drive.
September 25, 200718 yr Author Thank-you, and I have already downloaded PowerISO, UltraISO, Daemon Tools, and Alcohol 52%. Now, according to Alcohol 52%, I have mounted the image, but what now: And with Daemon Tools, after I mount the image, nothing happens. September 25, 200718 yr Go to "My Computer" and double click on the drive that the CD is mounted to...
September 25, 200718 yr Author It says, "Windows cannot read this disk. It may be corrupted or using a format that is not compatible with windows." As much as I am still interested in Halo 2, it seems too much work, plus, I haven't even started with the whole "It won't work on XP" thing. So I think I will switch my efforts to Halo: Combat Evolved. I will look for a few .isos tomorrow, but if anyone knows a good one, that would be extremely helpful. I now also have to take the time to just thank everyone who has helped me soooo much ! You have taken time out of your busy schedules to help me play a copy of a game. Thanks guys  . September 25, 200718 yr Ok, I'll clear as much as I can up. The legality of roms and isos depend on where your are, as different countries have completely different laws about this. Some will allow you to create backups, others will sue your if you do, and some don't give a damn. As many people will tell you most games consoles can be emulated, but some perform very poorly (mainly the newer the console is the poorer the performance). The best performing emulators are N64 (needs a decent PC) and older. The performance you get on a Xbox emulator would be poor. If you own a Xbox and halo 2 why do you need to play it on PC? Note. the ISO you downloaded is illegal in 90% of the world as you have not made he copy yourself. As for the Halo 2 (for PC) Patch, just do some research and you'll find it.
