Arquebus: RuneScape ready for muskets? (Revisited 9/24/06)

Featured Replies

I think with runescape's current game materials, it's possible to make a gun. They already have cannons, so why not guns? Good suggestion.

Sup noobs.

erm did you get that name from diablo2? :/

when i first heard of it i thought of age of empires

sounds good overall. but the musket seems like too much work to load....

it would mean slow xp and would require huge teams in order to pk efficiently with.

So what it will give guilds something to do.

I mean do you really want to stand around while a whole bunch of people stand in a castle and pump out cannonballs from a cannon.

The cannon is way diffrent as it has a turret and a furnace. And a had cannon is a bad idea. The recoil would kill you.

It should be a rifle for the sights.

Quest Idea: Kill The head Zamorak follower from a distance

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

XP is not an issue...this be not a training weapon. Teams are the general idea, guilds and clans can use these.

Castlewars would be fun...just line up and shoot...wall of death :P.

The recoil is thought out, hence the 2 second "stun" after firing.

As for the similarities to the cannon, there is none. This is made by either Misthalin peasants or it will preferably come from the Eastern Lands, where gunpowder would be common.

i meant that jagex might just name it a hand cannon

me too....

Excellent idea! :D

I was just watching a clan pk vid. It was cool watching people hit constant 25+'s, but one thing crossed my mind.

"Wheres all the strategy in this? This is supposed to be a CLAN WAR. Not a 1v1 match."

In a real war, leaders have to think where to place their troops. In rs, it's just clicky clicky and "All on blahblah @@@!!!" :?

This idea might actually add some strategy in the game, especially pking. 8)

Also..

RuneScape lacks a "Instant Kill/Blackbox" weapon. In shooting games, this would be the rocket launcher. In 1st-person games, this would be the grenade. Either acts as a weapon that adds HUGE damage to the opponent, but gives you a HUGE disadvantage as well. This creates the so-called "risk" factor of the game, making it thrilling. Of course, thrill=FUN! :D

This would add some fun for the low levelers, because you never know what could happen when you blast the musket. You might kill a guy thats 50 levels higher than you, or you could end up getting killed by the recoil. No one knows.

Well, let me think about this a bit more.. I know I have some ideas lodged up in my brain, I just can't find it..

Bump

Come on guys, I need more ideas, suggestions, criticisms, and improvements before I write this up and send it in!

you have a musket with sights weilded and you are standing in the wilderness alone. With the sights up you have a dis and a adv

Dis-someone behind you

adv-someone in front of you

So a group would be need ie a clan. making them clan weapons. they have heavy requiments to operate sussefully. This idea gets rid of the lone attacker that jumps from the lines to kill you as bang he's down.

This would make stratagy a key part of the game as a lone sharp shooter at the back of there army killing there genrals and commanders is the same as the whole army blasting there front line.

But with this comes great respones-abillity. a single person would not be important like they currantly are. A level 120 could be taken down by a level 40 with a musket. So planing would be key.

What about diffrent types of balls like

Iron-basic

heavy- fired by experts, does more damage

direct- more accurate

stick- sticks in them slowing them down

And other classes like steel, bronze, rune

I think this idea is about as refind as its gonna get. Send it in and thats it really, we are behind you

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

DEFFINATELY not ready for a Musket. A matchlock maybe.

A musket was more advanced than a Flintlock rifle, I'm pretty sure. That's way too ahead of itself for Runescape.

A matchlock would do high damage with poor accuracy and a slow firing rate..

A ranging Granite maul.

Which is pretty much the entire idea we have come up with. Musket is just a more recognizable term than flintlock.

It has to be some sort of accrate weapon or it would just go down as another weapon. It needs the human aiming system or it will just be another bow that has no reall use

It would be hard to aim the gun because your not in first person view.

Poochu.png

I think you would have a right click option, that way people with slow or bad connections would not take any extra strain(if they didn't use it for what ever reason it just acts as a crossbow...unless you run out of bullets in which case you have a easily breakable mace), The option would bring up a HUD (heads up display) showing ammo and a set of cross-airs that you could then target someone, like if you gave them a proper shot to the head then it is more than likely that they will approch death, It sorta brings back the Old days were random killing happened alot because nearly everywhere was pvp. If you had somthing like a heavy bullet in the foot then it would be hard to walk or run, and if you did it would damage you. If you had a peircing bullet in you hand you would not be able to weild a weapon or you would drop it. Buy using lots of diffrent types of bullet it would do 3 things:

Stop small bands of lvl 100 walking round the wilderness(looking like they owned the place), as they would get peged off by a band or even a single sharpshooter

It would stratagy to a game, If someone has the ability to kill you in one shot then people are alot more aware of what is going on around them, pking would take a backseat, the random charging would require huge numbers rather than some lvl 126 running into an army of lvl 20s, If the lvl 20 had these weapons the lvl 126 would get cut down.

You could also seige somewhere like a clan gets held up inside the black knights fortress, they would be able to fire they weapons into the enemy ranks beneath, as they would be firing up wards.

This would all mean that someone who has set up them selves to train all their skills to lvl 99 would be brought back down to earth when they can no long cheat their way to the top then reign supreme over everyone else, is unable to as they have no skill, so they are running into a barrage of fire and dieing from a good shot rather than a few other lvl 100 coming over and killing him

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

wait, quick question, can you add a bayonette to this gun? if so, then maybe that could make it a low-level (steel?) spear that can be used to defend yourself if you run out of ammo or gunpowder.

I believe the Chu-Ku-Nu is a good idea, and seriously crossbows are rather pointless, with not many uses. More crossbows are definitely a bonus.

The musket, however; is not such a good idea... it doesn't sound right, and neither do I think would it work right.

Why do you resist? My experiments are only helping humanity push the boundaries of the Art of Toxicology... you should be proud to be one of my victims.

~Toxicologist~

Well done your negitive imagiantion has cause it to break.

The musket needs to come out (or something like it) otherwise the concept of clan wars is pointless, I mean at the moment the people who have been playing the longest just go and kill people in the wilderness, if you take them down a peg they become clan leaders instead this then unites runescape and restarts the golden age of clan warfare with more stratagy than muscle, otherwise you might as well go slaughter noobs in castle wars.

With a nice musket fully loaded and eveything you can take down the other clans key player and then rush into all out war with the rest of your team, instead of the 'everyone on him' rule. We stand to gain loads from the muskets.

It also opens up the idea of anti-bullet helms, throw-away sheets of metal and other such. Blasting their top player is great, but then from nowhere in come a group of crack troops, they slaughter the sharpshooters and surround your side, you have nowhere to run, so you club one of the people in with your now smashed musket(bayonets... no point just pull out a pike otherwise you get bogged down in fighting) and then you fall back and mount a counter-attack with a secondary musket and destroy them. The strategy for the other team goes on you then slaughter their packhourse(the person who carrys the powerful weapons incase someone dies). With the instant kill weaponary it changes the face of warfare entirely, with the slow reload rate it give the other side a chance to move or attack, or a cunning person would set it so eveyone but him fired, then *bang* kill one of the top players.

Someone being cowardly no problem *bang* the coward is dead. Dragon weapons no longer are the best, a quick shot by someone means that the weapon is unwieldable for a few seconds. Giveing someone else the chance to destroy the opponate.

This is gonna happen at some point as without the insta kill weapon pking will rot.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

There would be a lot of scope for crafting on a musket-type weapon.

Make the stock from different woods (better wood = better accuracy?)

Make the barrel from different metals (lets say better metal = better range, or perhaps fewer misfires)

Make the balls (non recoverable) from different metals, giving higher damage.

So a rune ball, fired from a rune barrel, with a magic log stock would be the best possible hit, and would require high levels to use.

On the other hand, a weapon with low grade materials could be placed within reach of almost everyone, maybe even giving the warrior someting that will hit at a distance - maybe as good as a crossbow, but with no penalty for armour.

The weapon has weight, so maybe strength could be one requirement.

The manufacture of the parts could require at least two skills - smithing and possibly craft or fletching.

Should you be able to use a shield - I'd say not, since it would be a two handed weapon.

if muskets were started... people would want more... and i think muskets is a little advanced for a game which includes fletching... bows and guns... not a good mix... that and a team of 20+ high level characters could wipe out anything farely easily... it would be like the evolution of real life... i think stuck in the midevil times is good... there are some out there things tho that should be gone... bazooka is dumb

No it should just be a plain old musket with diffrent types of bullet. Non-tradeable, cost about 10k, have a slow reload rate, have the ability to kill in one shot, have the ability to disarm the enemy and can be used once as a club.

People would not want more as it can't really be upgraded much can it... you have a:

Short range rifle

A single use club

A simple crossbow that causes heavy damage but is slow

The thing is that it can't be used on non-players otherwise, quests would become super easy.

It also brings in the chance for helms to be worn to protect from fire.

Bronze peiceing bullets break:

Bronze helms in 1 shot

Iron in 2

Steel in 3

White/black in 4

and so on

Where as an iron peiceing bullet would pass through a bronze helm and kill the person.

This leads to the problem of rune on rune, but this is resolved as it delfects the bullet once then break through but because of the slow reload rate its hard to kill an enemy with just 1 person.

Then there is the chance of missing entirely, but the fact is that a marksman is only likely to get one shot before he is seen and attacked

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

i love this idea, i mean runescape to do with a new type of bow or we, but i think u would need a higher range for it.

Ranging is not really used in this, strength and attack are more used. But if you were on about the crossbow function then yeah it would need some range to operate.

Something like:

35 range

60 attack

60 strength

50 agility (to withstand the recoil)

The low range is because you are doing most of the work yourself not the character

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
