AlexDT
America invaded Iraq for the oil. If Al Qaeda had control of iraq's oil, the world economy would largely shut down. Just think about it. Nothing could be exported or imported, stocks in oil would go insane, etc. The economy would be largely controlled by terrorists. Just imagine that. In Australia, we were extremely worried when oil prices rose by ~30%. Imagine the leap in price if it were to be blocked off entirely. So, America went in to make sure the economy stayed stable. Oh yeah, and something about WOMD, or so some politicians say.

Barihawk
Do i have to be American to be in this poll, because i am not. It's obvious from your answers that you are not. You also don't study history because Afghanistan does not have large quantities of oil, it was just used as a refining nation by the Soviet Union. America has more than enough refineries as it is. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley

There is an important pipeline that runs trough Afghanistan. The power is not in the pipelines (privately owned), the power is in the wells and heads. Afghanistan has horrible oil production. They receive very little money from oil flowing through their country, and the pipeline's only worth to Afghanistan is royalties, which as I said are not worth waging war over.
