America invaded Iraq for the oil. If Al Qaeda had control of iraq's oil, the world economy would largely shut down. Just think about it. Nothing could be exported or imported, stocks in oil would go insane, etc. The economy would be largely controlled by terrorists. Just imagine that.

 

In Australia, we were extremely worried when oil prices rose by ~30%. Imagine the leap in price if it were to be blocked off entirely.

 

So, America went in to make sure the economy stayed stable.

 

 

 

Oh yeah, and something about WOMD, or so some politicians say.

The power is not in the pipelines (privately owned), the power is in the wells and heads. Afghanistan has horrible oil production. They receive very little money from oil flowing through their country, and the pipeline's only worth to Afghanistan is royalties, which as I said are not worth waging war over.
