Profins
In the items database, there are such discontinued items as all type axe handles and all type axe heads.. Yet they dont even exist.. How are they discontinued? They dont exist, noone has them and probably never will, whats the point in having an item that doesnt exist? Also, how are Untradeable Holiday Items discontinued? I lose, lets say, bunny ears and go talk to girl at Varrock..and I get it back, thus its continued :S Just other people cant get it. I think axe handles/heads should be removed, while a new group should be added - holiday items.
mchainmail
I believe (I was not the person that classified them) that the discontinued items category was made for items in which there are no new items coming into the game. There were axe handles and heads in the past, but since it is no longer possible to get them, they are considered discontinued (regardless of if there are any left in the game)

And other stuff that got deleted? I don't see a reason to list an item that doesn't exist. That's like listing car tires there.

Life Runes were added and removed (I think) before the item database was even started here. We only created this database this year, and the Life Rune was back in Runescape Classic. And your reference isn't exactly correct because car tires were never in the game. We have items in there that no longer exist, and we leave them in there so that people who want to go back and look at them can. That's the reason we still have the destabilizers from last years Hallowe'en(?) event. They aren't in the game, but they did exist at some point. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
Profins
That's weird really, when I yesterday complained about not having the best ways on how to do something on guides, Nazgul (I think) told me that it's because there is limited space they can use..Or something like that..Yet it is used by having unneeded items. Kay. No problems.
MPM
For the item database, we use the word discontinued to mean it can no longer be obtained or made. They may not actually exist in the game, but they use to, so they remain in the database. Other stuff that got deleted remains in there as well, if it was in game before being removed. ~M

Kay. No problems. Theres a huge difference and its not based on disk space. Items are loaded one at a time, guides are loaded all at once. Adding another section to each guide stating the "best" way to do a skill or task just adds to the size of the guide and makes for more reading. Not to mention the fact that the "best" method for one person is not always the "best" for all. "Best" methods are opinion based and not suitable for reference guides, which is precisely why we created the archive of wisdom and player made guide forums.
