AThousandLies
Not sure how well-known this guy is, but I just stumbled across him on a video posted by a friend on Myspace. He's a British stand-up comic/actor/radio present/writer who's been in said professions for about seven years. He's written a book and has his own show and has done numerous stand-up comic appearances (such as on Live Earth). He's a bloody genius and seems to seemlessly speech pattern from that of a working class Briton to a member of the intelligentsia. He's fantastic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Brand Videos: - Award acceptance speech - At Live Earth with Rickie Gervais - At the Secret Policeman's Ball - Banter with Noel Fielding
1_man_army
I find him funny in small doses but after a while he can be a bit irritating. He's pretty popular in the UK but he'll never break USA because of his little Bin Laden stunt the day after 9/11. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
Bubsa
You mention a point there I think worth picking up on. "He's a genius" - subjective, but, I'd have to agree with you, the content of his jokes are cleverly constructed. However, I just can't stand the way he presents it. It's like how Brad Pitt turns a great character into merely a good one, Brand murders and mullers some of the jokes. A shame, I'd love to see a comedian adept at their presentation putting forward Brand's work. Plus, the fact he actively appeals to nearly every social 'outcast' out there, like the whole 'vomit mainstream' society, whacks of irony as it's the only way he's in the limelight now. Regretably I admit it's a clever ploy by him, but it still doesn't mean I like him. He's just the slightest bit annoying as well. Not in the same way that David "I'm taking over television by making the same jokes on every show in the country" Mitchell, but a far more obvious "Shut up" kind of way, sometimes. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
pryomancer
I think Russell Brand is great. I love his style and attitude. He's also an intelligent man, although some people think because he dresses like he does and was a heroin addict, he must be stupid and has nothing worth saying. ltb2006
He's big in the u.k,quite funny in small doses but he's on t.v a bit too much to find him funny all the time if you know what i mean.
assassin_696
I didn't get into this guy until I started listening to his Saturday night BBC2 radio show, which is just comic genius. Part of the brilliance of it though is his co-presenter and friend Matt Morgan, who provides the perfect comic foil for Russell, often deflating his ego and mocking him for various things at just the right point so that Russell never gets too above himself, it's all very lighthearted. I haven't seen a lot of his stand-up, I watched his Channel 4 tv show earlier which was great but fairly well rehersed and scripted. A lot of Russell's brilliance lies in his improvisation.
