SanFranciscoGiants
As I was on the computer, this just randomly popped up in a new window, I immeadately exited out, though. After seeing the world "malware" I looked in my history and sure enough this site was there: http://scanner2.malware-scan.com/5_swp/ ... 3078_11288 DON'T CLICK ON IT (SCROLL OVER IT; THERE IS MORE, IT'S JUST HIDDEN) Is it a virus by any chance? Varda
I can safely click those links, most viruses are in [Caution: Executable File] files, but if you downloaded it, get rid off it now. And this should probably be in the Tech forum.

And this should probably be in the Tech forum. I didn't download it, I went to the Runescape forums, and it just popped up over it. Also, how would I go about downloading it? Varda
It`s just random spam that tries to trick you to downloading the spyware, that will go through your history, adding pop-ups et cetera, so if you get something like that next time, just click Cancel, and Cancel some more, and close the window or tab. (Who remapped my keys to show up the quickfind? Ffs!)

Varda
If I do get virus, I won't notice it, but if someone else, that use Windows, get a virus from me, they will notice. I use Mac, so I won't get any viruses. :P

adam_ross0
It's probably not a virus unless you downloaded the program. If you did, delete the [Caution: Executable File] immediately. If it keeps popping up ads, I would scan for adware with Adaware or Spybot: S&D. I'd also delete web history and cookies, just to be safe. What they're doing is throwing ads at you in order for you to click them and download spyware or malware onto your computer.

Bac_Talan
I am 100% sure it is a virus. I downloaded it on a Mac, and scanned it with Jotti: [hide=Big image][/hide] Plus, McAfee SiteAdvisor closed the window on me. :-s If you did download it, delete it completely, and whatever you do, do not run it. And here's McAfee's take on it: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_138897.htm Essentially, it gets you to buy their product to fix errors that don't exist. It was interesting to see it "scanning" the Windows XP system files on my Mac though.. :XD: I once shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.Pics or it didn't happen. I hate my generation. ClareJonsson
I too am an IT expert and I have just taken a look at the code on that website. It's just a silly page that attempts to trick you into downloading the spyware/virus/software by using scare tactics. That "oh so clever" scanning of your system on the main screen is a hoax, it's just simple javascript doing nothing more than altering the progress bar and reporting fake infections. The things that are dangerous are the pop up boxes, clicking the wrong option there could initiate a download, but anyone with half a brain wouldn't be silly enough to do that. There's millions of websites just like this all over the net, this one is nothing special. Some of them try and sell you their legitimate software by using this scare tactic technique, most are really spyware (Obviously), but not many are viruses as there's not much money in viruses. I noticed you stated that the site really does infect your PC with a virus, can you back that up by telling us which virus that is?
