Pro Wrestling-Shelton Benjamin

Hey, I'm Hbk_Hossack, and this is my 2nd wrestlign thread. This thread is about one superstar who I believe to be the most athletic comptetitor in the WWE today.

Shelton Benjamin

Shelton Benjamin is a former 2-time WWE Tag Team Champion with Charlie Haas, a former 3-time Intercontinental Champion and has victories over Triple H, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam and Ric Flair. When i first say him debut I thought buy late 2007 or early 2008 he would be a main event superstar. He was going very well when he was drafted to Raw, but after losing the Intercontinental Championship to Johnny Nitro at Vengeance 2006, he hasn't been given much oppurtunities to become that main event superstar. He is not only the most athletic superstar in the WWE, but is a very good amatuer wrestler. Putting him back together with Charlie Haas was a very bad move. Shelton excelled as a singles superstar, and Charlie Haas was literally dead weight whe the Worlds Greatest Tag Team reunited. They had an alright match against the Hardys at ECW One Night Stand 2007, but they only got one title shot. Now Shelton has been moved to ECW. To me, the new ECW is a joke. It isn't ECW, and never will be. Shelton Benjamin should return back to Raw and leave ECW for good. ECW isn't a place for the newer superstars or mid-carders to make a name, the only title is the ECW Championship, but the Smackdown/ECW talent exchange was a good idea. Have a look at some of the matches he's competed in in the past few years, Money in the Bank (Wrestlemania 21), Money in the Bank (Wrestlemania 22), VS Rob Van Dam (Backlash 2006), VS Chris Jericho (Backlash 2005), VS Johnny Nitro VS Carlito (Vengeance 2006), and plenty more great matches I've missed out on which were great and Shelton proved his athleticism and in-ring ability. The WWE should be pushing Shelton, he's the brightest star they've got, not tools like Cody Rhodes and Festus. (Festus has the stupidest gimmick I've ever seen BTW).

So that's it my rant, opinion whatever you want to call it. Below I've added a Shelton Benjamin highlights video. enjoy and post!

Shelton Benjamin had a great tag team with Brock Lesnar back in OVW (I think they were called the Minnesota Stretching Crew). I think the only reason he hasn't had Lesnar's success is his lack of size, which still makes a huge difference in the Sports Entertainment variety of professional wrestling. I think that he'd perform better in a company like Ring of Honor, where fans are far more accepting of smaller wrestlers and wrestlers are expected to pull every move they can to make the matches more entertaining. Just look at Brent Albright, who briefly wrestled on SmackDown! as Gunner Scott. After being released he went straight to ROH, where he quickly got over because he got to use his amateur background more. His half-nelson suplex is something you'd never see in WWE. He's currently a member of the Hangm3n, one of the most vicious heel groups of the American independent scene.

I only really got back into wrestling at the start of this year so I can't really comment on his performance in past years in relation to 2007. But, I do think he is hugely talented and incredibly underused. With Charlie Haas he was just a Heat staple; WGTT were essentially jobbers with music. On Raw, there isn't much for Shelton to do because he's been there for so long and, despite his talent, there are other people more over as heels than him.

I think the move to ECW was a good thing. WWE's version of ECW isn't meant to be like the old one - as J.R. has said on his blog on at least one occasion, the old ECW is dead. The current version is meant to be a breeding ground for newer superstars, are older superstars who have lost their momentum. Just look at John Morrison - his career essentially came to a halt after Mercury left and he stopped having matches with the Hardys. He became a Heat staple, and was eventually teaming with Kenny Dykstra. That was going nowhere, and he's far too talented for a tag team. He moved to ECW and, although the Benoit thing is primarily responsible for his rise, it did him good. Even if the Benoit thing hadn't happened, he'd still be a bigger star than on Raw.

They're really pushing Shelton for the title now, and let's face it - he's totally lost his momentum. By putting him on ECW, they're giving him a chance to work with similarly athletic wrestlers such as Punk, Morrison and Burke. I would expect him to be in the ECW title picture very soon - hell, he could even challenge Punk for it at Armageddon. He needed to move to ECW because he wasn't going to get a push while a part of the Raw roster. He's gaining back the momentum he needs to become a top-tier superstar.

Uhuh.. Yeah..

Not saying this is useless or anything (I agree with Necro, infact) but maybe you should try a WWE / TNA (Pro Wrestling) forum.
