So, seeing our pretty idea of an Index has suddenly come to a halt, I'd like to ask Admins (or anyone else that knows) whether a similar option is included in phpbb3.

It isn't. It would take some custom work to add, just like PhpBB2.

Ouch. :( ... BTW, I bet the thought that started this thread surfaced from someone seeing it on Invision or VBulletin... anyone wanna bet on it? :-s

On a similar side-thought, sure, I know that phpBB isn't Invision or VBulletin, but one of the most basic functions that they have which phpBB doesn't is keeping people's "read status" in forums, as in, what they have read and what they have not. On the bright side, phpBB picks up in one spot where those others don't. It shows you all the threads you've ever posted in. But not having the "read status" markers almost negates the usefulness if you have to log out for any reason, including the proverbial "it is too late at night" thing. :|

Guess I can just dream.

Correct, lol. I like a lot of the thing I see on those forums, and many of them could be easily installed here. There'd probably be some issue with doing that though.

PhpBB has had that forever. PhpBB2 stores it in a cookie, PhpBB3 stores it in the DB. :?

Wait... if phpBB2 does, and my cookies for "tip.it" (which is causing my cookies for these forums to be accepted anyway) are globally set to "Allow", not "Allow for Session", then why is this PC not holding it? Do I need to set site-specific additional cookie settings in addition to the basic one for "tip.it"? :-s

And you're telling me that phpBB3 will track it so that if I'm not done reading, and I have to log out for some reason, I don't lose my markers? :-s ... If that's the case, I'm going to be hungering for the upgrade. (Been wishing for it for too long. :-k ...)

The cookie is set under the forum.tip.it domain name and is named 'phpbb_2_mysql_t'.

Pretty much.

Couldn't people just start using the avatar? Put your picture in the avatar?. .

  But some people like their avatar...

More seriously,

The avatar section probably isnt big enough for some of the pictures people will want to upload.
