December 12, 200718 yr They just need to stop using cc's then. They are too heavily dependent on it if CC fraud could bring down a multimillion dollar company. If Maplestory can sell $5 and $10 cards in Walmart, why can't Jagex? More people would also subscribe if they didn't need a cc and could just go to a local store to buy a card for $5. I assume Jagex won't go to bankrupt after few rebillings. However in a longer run that could become costly if nothing was done. With updates like this they can cut their own costs and get a better profit margin that way, even with less money running in. I assume that card thing has something to do with the cost of delivering, printing and selling them as it was first time suggested before p2p had even come. With a system like that Jagex would either need to rise the price for those cards or lose money on them (compare 100 CC theoretically 500$ and 100 cards, 500$-all costs) as they'd take away part of the profit from cc pays. I'm relatively sure that a company of a size of Jagex knows exactly what they are doing and haven't found that the best system from their view. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
December 12, 200718 yr A chargeback fee, often up to $35, is charged per incident to the merchant, that is not refundable regardless of the outcome of the dispute. There's many reasons why RWT is bad for RuneScape, JaGeX named a few and skimmed through many. If one chooses to see only that one, at least realize that it is a big issue. (I'll list the reasons out one of these days.) All I learned in life, I learned on Tip.it
December 12, 200718 yr Unbalanced trade is going from RuneScape; if anything gets lost alongside it we can find it again, new and improved, with the help and support of our players. I REALLY hope they follow through on this quote to get back gifts and stuff.
December 13, 200718 yr Fantastic article. Despite these hard handed tactics, I believe that the gaming industry will look back on this episode as a turning point in the battle against RWTs of intellectual properties that's been hurting all MPROGs. I imagine that Jagex will be studied by the entire gaming industry and they deserve a lot of respect and kudos for making such bold updates. Despite their sudden appearance, it's clearly something they've been working on for some time. I agree that the updates are far from perfect and will likely be tweaked, this is what makes it such an interesting subject matter for the gaming industry. They'll want to know just what limits are required to defeat RWTs and I'm sure they'll all be watching carefully. In the meantime, Jagex hasn't really suffered. There's about a 5% drop in players since the update, and most of them were probably bots and farmers.
