Illegal?

A lot of artists upload music on their own MySpace site or 'accidentally' "leak" new albums to gain more popularity, even known and commercially succesful artists.

Other than that, no idea  Not having an account there, I don't visit MySpace really... But I remember nearly every front page being embedded with like 5 MP3's. Legal or not; You'd have to make your own judgement...

If the artist hasn't chosen to freely distribute those MP3's, such as Radiohead, it's very likely to be illegal.

When you upload a song onto myspace you have an option as to make it available for download. So the artist decides whether or not the song can be downloaded, in most cases the song can only be listened to and not downloaded.

A friend to all is a friend to none.

Yeah myspace now has a download button for those artists who choose to allow their songs to be downloaded.

^. +1, I am 100% sure. However, I'd like to tell you that, although it is illegal, I would bet my soul they do not track and penalize [heavily] those who do download off a fansite. Just don't mass-download.

The spelling and grammar of that email was that of an 11 year old palestinian goatboy who is speaking english for the first time
Quite simply, Facebook craps on Myspace. Then makes it eat the crap.
