Question about separating puppies

Bloodstain

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a 4 month old dog tomorrow, that is in there with his brother who were both part of an accident litter and are separated from the other puppies/mom. They were in seperate cages next to each other but lying against the cage wall that was closest to the other...and I'm starting to feel really bad about going in there tomorrow, buying one, and then separating them the 27th...am I over reacting? I just feel like since they are still together that I shouldn't be splitting them up because they are brothers...... :wall:

It's people like you that cause puppies to be sad :(.

Don't worry about it, you should do it now before they become too attached. Our dog was bought from a litter of 6 puppies. We know the other owners and sometimes meet up at the house of where they were bought and the dogs actually have fun.

It's fine, however, the first night will be terrible with the puppy weeping practically the whole night. Just don't go down to them otherwise they will do it every night for attention.

Your name is "bet you fail", and you're starting a business with your mom? I'm not even going to touch that.....

Well said. They'll (hopefully) become quiet after a while. But make sure to give them lots of attention and love. :P

Well, its better then leaving them with an owner who cannot care for them all and have them end up being malnourished or dying, etc. Even though they're seperated, they're still better off with you than all together. headache for the owner, the mother, and even for the puppies to try to live in a crowded area.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

Don't worry about it - when I bought my dog (almost ten years ago) she was only 6 weeks old; his mother was unfortunately ill after giving birth to a huge litter so they all had to be taken away for her own health. If we hadn't taken him I shudder to think what may have happened to him.

The first few nights will be difficult, the puppy WILL cry, lots, and incessantly. On the advice of people who had been through similar things we did a few things that may help you.

In the dogs basket (or box, or wherever he/she will sleep) place:

a very very soft blanket

a warm (but not boiling) hot water bottle

a clock which ticks fairly loudly

These (apparently) will simulate the feel, heat and heartbeat of the mother/companion he's used to and should help (it did with our puppy).

Good luck!

P.S. ignore all those who would cry barbarism - most are ignorant to keeping a dog properly, I had enough people shout it at me for having my dog's tail docked...idiots.

Buy them both but keep them seperate. The one that lives is the strong one, and should be toughened even further through rigorous physical training and a diet completely made of tree bark and protein supplements.
