harold_king
a cross-cable? the desktop would need 2 LAN ports for that (if you still want internet that is) but why not just connect the laptop to the router/switch directly? darkblade986
While it is possible, I doubt any of us here have the technical know-how to be able to guide you through it. However, any good laptop will usually have an internet card that has both Ethernet and Dial-Up ports. All you'd have to do is find those ports and you can just plug in the cord from your Desktop computer into your Laptop. don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?Officially reached 100 Combat at 1:33PM EST, June 14, 2007First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat
MageUK
If you get a crossover cable you can connect the ethernet ports of the two computers directly. The more expensive option is to buy a router and connect both PCs into there via ethernet. The other option (you didn't want), is wireless, and a fourth option is an ethernet-like USB cable that allows you to connect the two computers ( like this one : http://www.techfocus.co.uk/pages/produc ... e%5Ftest=1 ). However, if you already have a router (a routing device with more than one ethernet port in the back, and connected to your modem), then you can just plug your laptop directly into there via ethernet. ooberman
How is your desktop connected to the internet? Does it use its own ethernet port or is it a usb modem? oober
Guest
:? I don;t get your question You have a laptop that you want to connect through another pc that is connected with the internet to the internet? Then the pc should have 2 Internet cards in it. If you want to connect the laptop directly or via a router/modem all you need is a cross cable in between.
REDACTED
If your PC is connected to a router, like mine (because I also distribute my internet to other laptops with a wireless connection from it) Then all you would require is another Ethernet cable, like the one you already have connecting your PC to the router. BlueLancer
Just about every laptop has a standard ethernet port, usually behind & under the monitor. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to it, and surf freely :) If your only goal is connecting the laptop to the internet, there is no reason to hook it up to a desktop PC
