January 7, 200818 yr Not all people can see the difference between red and green, you know. And that becomes a problem when playing RuneScape- for people with deuteranopia, it looks like your hp is some sort of sepia bar over your head, with little or no differences between red and green. The rainbow: When you have deuteranopia (Let's call it red-green colorblindness): So the obvious conclusion is that in order for color blind players to be able to see their HP, they have to make different options for different kinds of colorblindness- (If they had an option to change the colors to violet and blue, my friend Deathskully couldn't tell the difference for example) remember, red-green colorblindness isn't the only kind, there's also total colorblindness and green-blue colorblindness etc. SO for total colorblindness they would have to change it to grayscale. I honestly can't see anything wrong with this idea. Here, to read more on the subject, I'll give you a Wikipedia link: Wikipedia: Color Blindness
January 7, 200818 yr A person with colourblindness playing rs is so rare it is not worth jagex wasting resources dealing with it. Otherwise they would have by now. Goals achieved: lvl 99 Cooking, Fishing and Fletching.Surrey CC and Liverpool FC fan for life!
January 7, 200818 yr A person with colourblindness playing rs is so rare it is not worth jagex wasting resources dealing with it. Otherwise they would have by now. Not true. The old boxes given by the misterious old man asked for colors. Why do you think it got changed to numbers? [bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp
January 7, 200818 yr Author A person with colourblindness playing rs is so rare it is not worth jagex wasting resources dealing with it. Otherwise they would have by now. Think of it this way: With having at least 800,000 people playing/have played, there's a pretty good chance that there are going to be some colorblind people. And be sympethetic for the people who are colorblind or people who are tone deaf. Or is that above your capacity?
January 7, 200818 yr I think that if this is not implemented in the game, to not adjust for people with disabilities, then Jagex is truly as mean as they are made out to be. I honestly can't see anything wrong with this idea. I was agreeing with you, until you made that stupid comment. "Make this update. If you don't, you're EVIL!"
January 8, 200818 yr You haven't posted the colour of the green hp bar, but I assume it would look quite a lot lighter than the red bar for people with deuteranopia. I suffer slightly from colour blindness and the one thing that always gets me is iron and coal. To see a difference I have to play on Bright (which I find annoying), so a change to make them different would be useful imo. "In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
January 8, 200818 yr I agree. I did a project on colorblindness. My teacher gave me extra points discussing the issue of color-blind people playing video-games. (Got 100 on it! W00t!) Perhaps add an hp bar on the bottom of your screen, and a numerical repersentation of your hp next to it. Also, it should be included if you are poisoned/diseased/frozen/stunned. ~It's Super Effective! January 9, 200818 yr Great idea! I support, this would be alot more fair to colorblind people. You know, people sometimes just don't think about other people being colorblind (accidentaly, of course). I would have never thought that it would be so hard for someone colorblind to play. Penguin Power!^The last great war of the Wilderness....Yeah, I don't have a cool signature, so the MSSW3 sig will have to do....
January 9, 200818 yr dsavi_x4 - Great Post  1) I have red-green colorblindness. BAD. 2) Dracion1, There's a difference between the color of coal and iron? 3) Alex_Ewan_1 - sorry we're not all perfect =; 4) Everyone else - nice to find intelligent constructive comments. I think the idea is great and one to be expanded on, maybe allow custom colors for everyone so we can see things the way we want. The thing about being colorblind that I don't think some people understand is that it's not that we don't see ANY colors, we just see them wrong. I can see every color my friends and family can, I just see them differently. And then when certain colors are next to others, they actually change what I see. Green next to Brown is Brown. Green next to Red is Red. And the list goes on...shoot, I thought stoplights were white, orange, orange until I started driving...and those flashing yellow/red lights out in the middle of the country...I just stop, I can't tell...anyway... Great Idea! Good thinking.
January 9, 200818 yr And after that we need to go through runescape and add braille throughout all of runescape on the signs, all the cut scenes, etc. *roll eyes* Pointless topic. January 9, 200818 yr Author Nice to see some support! If I can figure out how, I'll make an image of RuneScape as seen by a colorblind person. (Help there please?) Continue with the suggestions and constructive critisism, I'm kind of out of ideas. But this is definitely a good one: Perhaps add an hp bar on the bottom of your screen, and a numerical repersentation of your hp next to it. Also, it should be included if you are poisoned/diseased/frozen/stunned. Maybe we don't need to change the color scheme. Of course, you can look in the skills menu to see a numerical representation, but who wants to do that at KBD's lair or Kalphite Queen? If we get enough supporters, maybe I'll start a supporters list.
January 9, 200818 yr Call me what you may Im just being logical. Im a pretty avid gamer, and I dont believe when developers make their games they make them around the disabled public. I just think its a silly sugguestion thats all. I just think its a silly sugguestion thats all. Its nothing too major, and you feel it'd be a waste. Whats wrong about coping with the disabled? Deuteranopia is a common disability, Jagex have changed some random events in the past because of this? Yet you think its silly? How about we cut off your legs and don't give you a wheelchair.
January 9, 200818 yr A numerical representation of hp would be nice anyhow. Obviuosly of Jagex could add a toggle option for colour changes, that would be nice, but there will always be people with disabilities and Jagex cant deal with them all. Hmmm.... I need a new siggy, get round to doing it later. Probably.

You're right of course, but you never know what effects it might have on their profits, which is obviously their point. If this was implemented, they would be the first company to try it. As you know, you never find out anything unless you experiment. Naturally this isn't just an experiment, but maybe in the future all games will have compatibility support for those with disabilities.

January 9, 200818 yr I agree, It would be nice if the few people with colourblindness to be able to play without the worry of "Is that poison damage or disease?" or the worry of their hitpoint bar. Maybe they could make a link on their "Detail select" screen for colour settings? Either way, good idea! =D> 99 Attack (10/11/09) 99 Defence(2/25/2010)Visages: 3 Whips: 4 Dark Bows: 3Dragon platelegs: 2 Dragon plateskirts: 5 Dragon Boots: 263rd age platelegs
January 10, 200818 yr I'm just a little colour-blind (deuteranomaly, 5% of the people suffer from this*), and I can't see any difference between Iron an Coal. However, I'd say that there's enough of a brightness difference in the HP bar. As for me, I don't really expect them to change the game for a few of us, but such changes would be really welcomed.
