Mentoring program?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking that some of the more inexperienced posters would like to have a mentor to help them post properly. Similar to the program Zybez has. The tutors will sign up and be previewed. Basically, tutors get to teach other forum members on how to post more productively and more accurate. This will help improve the posting quality as a whole.

They won't have a special user rank or anything like that, it will be on a voluntary basis.

lol. I'd like to be a mentor. 'Don't post unless you've got something intelligent to say. If you're still unsure, stay away from OT until you are!' I'd be so good at it! :P

I disagree, since you almost create a hierachy amongt the members. "Person X is a mentor, so anything Person Y says that contradicts X is instantaneously wrong by default". It just creates friction that doesn't need to be there.

I'd have though we already have good enough mentors anyway; they're called 'moderators'.

Not much will be changed. The mentors will be more experienced posters. Since they are known around the forum, they are more respected than someone going around speaking 1337speak.

I'll clarify the first post.

No.

It's better to learn by trial and error, than to be spoon fed by those who have already learned the ways of the forum. >.>

Besides, if they don't know how to post, how exactly are they going to go into a sticky, READ IT ALL, and then apply for help?

If by somehow you can get the ones who actually need the help, and not the ones who can post fine, but just want to be extra careful, like the case at Zybez, it'd be good. But too bad the users will be ignorant to their own mistakes, or bad habits, and continue going on with them until they break their habits of posting. so no, bad idea, and I don't even know why Zybez has it. <.<

I agree, but the people who are the "mentors" would be...well not like that, mature, know's about runescape, friendly ect. and these people would be picked by staff so they assure that who's helping is going to do a good job.

I'd think this would be a great idea, but we could change the name from mentors to like...Helping tip.iters!

Here's how it would work:

People would "volunteer" by posting on a thread with some infomation on it, using a forum thats posted on the orginal post. This would include time zone, hours when they play, what they know alot about ect.

Staff montering the thread would then pick and choose who is "acceptable" to get a helping tip.iter, in which they'd adivse a list of all the people picked with there infomation displayed.

This way people could add someone who fits there needs and the helping tip.iter would, well help them out!

Can we make it any less unoriginal, and more of a 'lets copy Zybez'?

I, for one, am not going to support copying another forums, or fansites features. More or less, it's a bad rep for Tip.It.

So you're against something that has worked well (at least to my understanding) somewhere else, but because it's someone else's idea, it won't be a good addition here. More or less, it's keeping up with the competition. If site A thinks up something good would it not make sense for site B to look at it and adapt it to keep up with site A?

What's stopping you now from mentoring a new member? Just give them a PM and let them know how to post.

The only problem with that is the fact that they don't know the good posters between the bad. If a mentoring program was in place, this would filter all or most of those bad posters.

I agree. I don't want to copy them, I just said something similar to Zybez.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't relize what I came up with was the same as zybez, honestly I've only visted there for a quick price check, never even touched the forums.

In that case...I shall think more ::'

It's always you or Eel, to see the thing I knew about, but ignored because I felt lazy to re-edit my post. :wall:

But no, if it works, it should be done, just how he described it was way to similar to Zybez's.
