Runescape isn't socialist. It's a dictatorship. And in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with that, as long as the dictator is competant... which is questionable in this situation, but eh.

One argument that I'd like to put forward for Jagex is that as a company, their primary goal is to make money. Not eradicate real world trading. Therefore, if they chose to eradicate it, in theory it should be because it helped them make more money. And as long as it did, then it was an intelligent move (I personally find it hard to believe that it did, but you never know :|).

In regard to this update... I think it was rather supercilious, but I have to disagree with das on how many people have been affected - there are probably less than 100 people who are going to quit because of this update, and probably only a handful of them are members - meaning worst case scenario this update cost Jagex a few bucks.

People talk about this being the precursor to something like godswords being removed from GE - but that would just be plain stupid. And stupid companies don't develop into multi million dollar corporations. Jagex has made a few questionable business decisions, but they aren't a bunch of monkeys.

Post full of so much win, at least i know one other person has the same mindset as me

Sorry, I'm a bit slow. Why are people complaining that burned meat cannot be traded in GE?

Does it affect your gameplay in any way? Are you worried (paranoid?) that Jagex, having shown they can spoil your fun with burned meat products, will now look at other commodities to ban from GE?

Qeltar brought up a Jagex quote earlier, I'll see if I can find it...ah here it is

The prices items sell at are therefore not set by Jagex but by the players themselves! We are keen to keep a player-driven economy, so the prices are worked out using the supply and demand rules above. We will only intervene as a last resort, and only if we think price manipulation is going on, although the system has lots of safeguards to prevent that.

We were already warned that Jagex could intervene.

I seem to remember something when I first joined RS, along the lines of "Jagex reserve the right to cancel your account at any time, for any reason etc., etc." Just because they CAN, doesn't mean they WILL.

And I'm still confused over why the burned meat thing is such a big deal in the scheme of things.

Teeg

Okay. As has been said MULTIPLE times, it's NOT the item that we're concerned about. It's the precedence of removign certain items from the GE.

Burnt food was NOT a "resource" and could only be traded in quantities of 100 per GE "cycle". So only a few hundred could be RWTed a day.

Now Jagex has removed something that most players could care less about. And I'll tell you right now they will do it several mroe times over the coming weeks.

They HAVE to do this. Though these trivial items aren't the main reason they are doing this. They are doing this as an EXAMPLE, to use when they remove items of more "importance" from the GE later on.

Because if they are removing burnt food from the GE to PREVENT RWT abuse, then they HAVE to remove other items from it that ARE BEING ABUSED RIGHT NOW.

As players show, and are even showing on this thread, they are willing to accept ANY loss of content in this game as long as it's done slowly.

Much like boiling a frog.

And interestingly; much like current politics Jagex is also using "class warfare" to keep players attacking each other instead of Jagex.

It's not skillers, pures, honest merchants, duelers, collectors, and mains against Jagex and what many consider "bad" updates.

It's all of us against each other, and it's AMAZING what a company can do as long as they can keep their customers attacking each other and "ignoring" what they are removing from the game.

And it's very interesting to see the theory in ACTION here on the forums.

I don't see removing burnt meat from the GE as a precedent.

When Jagex removes something important, I promise to change my mind.

So you don't care about collecting, free trade, gifts, pking, staking, wilderness, normal trade, looting, sharing loot(LS is a joke). Well, it just shows that as long as it's done slowly, people will accept anything. Ever read "Animal Farm"?

I have, and I see it already happening. The only things they have left to do are to sell the horse and imitate the humans.

I was referring only to the GE, sorry for the lack of clarity.

Sure, removal of unbalanced trade and PKing, and staking sucks for players who used those features a lot. Well it's jagex's game, and they're free to do whatever they like with it. If gold farming was costing them more money than PKers, stakers, and merchants were bringing in then they have every right to remove features that facilitate it. If you don't can't deal with that, either go buy out jagex or quit.

Well, technically they're free to do anything, but they can't. Why? The players who pay may stop paying. And, right now, they're trying to do whatever they want WITHOUT telling players and, when players find out, they talk down to them and say "No, YOU'RE wrong. We're protecting you."
If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

Ok, now with that background given, it's obvious there are many people since the initial staking update who have not yet reached Piaget's 3rd stage because they don't care about what doesn't affect them. Amazing how many people we have running around with the intellectual development of a child under the age of 7.

Ignoring the blatant attempt to insult anybody that doesn't agree with you (which is a good way to have anybody dismiss any points you make), what exactly do *you* require from people to make them care enough?

A lot of people do actually care about the people suffering in other countries, for instance, but that doesn't translate to them actually upsetting their entire lives to go over and try and do something. Which would be a mistake anyways, for a variety of reasons. It doesn't mean they haven't reached the intellectual development of a 7yr old child, it just means that there are limits to what people can afford to care about.

I know everybody whose RS life revolved around these parts of the game is drastically affected. What is everybody else supposed to do about it? If *they* enjoy the game as it is at present, where is *your* concern for *their* POV?

If a person wants to collect burt shrimp, just spend the whole day in Draynor village; you will score a truckload of burt shrimp there!

If you have more than level 2 cooking, you will rarely burn a shrimp. I never burn shrimp myself, so.... it would be very hard for me to collect it if I did want to. :wall: #-o :-w

EDIT:

When came for the Stakers,

I remained silent;

I was not a Staker.

When they came for the Pkers,

I remained silent;

I was not a Pker.

When they came for the Merchants,

I did not speak out;

I was not a Merchant.

When they came for me,

there was no one left to speak out

Adapted from "First They Came..." by Martin Niem̮̦̉̉ller

that says it all.......

great job, jagex... =D> :boohoo:

I've read it.... and... now that you mention it this shows striking similarities to the pigs...................

jagex with RWT like animal farm pigs....?

scaaaaaaaaary thought.....

I can see it now.... jagex kills off RWT for a while, then they RWT themselves and allow the normal gold sellers to do so as long as they only sell the gold to jagex......

as said before.... scaaaaaaaaary thought.....

:ohnoes: :ohnoes:

off topic.....

Jagex is like a cat, wich lies happily on a warm rug, then suddenly a light appears on the wall. At first, the cat doesn't really care about it, it catches his attention but its not all that important. Then after a while it gets really really annoying, and he jumps at the light on the wall.

He smacks his head and falls down. Now Cat is really ticked off and jumps at the light over and over again. This annoyance must be destroyed! No matter how much porcelain cups or ming vases are shattered, this light must go down. Cat makes a big mess. The owner comes home, and sees the cat in a pile of rubbish. The cat blames the dog and goes back to sleeping on the rug again.

The light is still there.

can I add that to my signature?

[hide=quotes]

You are like a three legged cat. Everyone hates you and thinks you are ugly until, one day, they realize that you're cuter than all of the other cats. And you're fluffy too. I'm so glad I petted you.

I've always wondered: If there's offensive language, than there should be Defensive Language. But I've never encountered it. If it does exist, what would it entail? Being painstakingly polite in such a manner that infuriates another?

That's what I said. :P

IF and only IF gold farming costs more than the membership revenues of the groups jagex screws over provide, then any attack on gold farming is economically justified, which is generally the only sort of justification a company needs to do something.

And jagex has no obligation to share their plans with their players. On top of that I'm sure they believe that they ARE right. I don't see your point. (also see the post I made a few above yours).

Too many other posts to quote, but...

@Tallest - It's not a lack of caring. If I only liked one aspect of RS, and that aspect were removed, yeah it would suck. I'm sorry for the people who spent long boring hours maxing accounts they no longer can do anything they enjoy on. But that's not at all that this topic is about. This topic is about the removal of burnt food from the grand exchange, and whether this sets an alarming precedent for removing things that the general RS population actually buys from the grand exchange (I think it doesn't).

@alphaq - he meant pick up shrimps that other people burned. #-o

  • 4 weeks later...
So you cant buy a bunch of junk items that would be used for RWT. Cry about it and pick a new game if you want burnt food so damn bad. Iv NEVER EVER had a problem with any GE changes ; all my items sold, all my items bought, and never had to go and buy things from players. Most I had to do was look for forum green dbody buyers, but, then I found out it was only for the buying aspect, not selling, where I could sell my bodies in one quick sale.

Dont like the updates? Leave.

OOOOOH! Constructive! HE's so constructive! His comments give good insight! OOOOOH! Constructive! HE' so constructive! He really helps with our problems!

Seriously. That attitude doesn't do you any favours. Example:

Jagex just removed the entire trading system outside of the GE!

Don't like it? Leave.

Jagex shut down Bounty Hunter because some RWTs were still getting through!

Don't like it? Leave.

Jagex decides to remove chatting features because some players use profanity!

Don't like it? Leave.

See how that goes on? Anything they do can be excused thusly: Don't like it? Leave.

Nice post. =D> =D>

Let me add one to it: Don't like us complaining about it? Leave.

To every noob that says burnt fish isn't a big deal: IT ISN'T. Read the topic page again, please, and pay attention this time.

Andrew: What's this? You like Pking? Remove wilderness pking! You like steak huh? Poison the cows! You like ripping off noobs (Sorry, merchanting)? No more free trade! Bwahahahah! What? I'm ruining lives? What lives? So many rioters in world 1/2 Varrok, and not one social life to share between them, and not one of them that can legally vote!

Don't look at me, Andrew said it.
