June 22, 200818 yr You definitely get the most xp per hour with the highest thing you can make, that's a no brainer.....but what I did was bought steel bars, this way its not too expensive, but then again its not too slow of xp, like bronze would be really cheap, but takes ages, addy goes fast, but costs tons.....steel is most effective! :D 1673rd person to 99 smithing! June 22, 200818 yr Smithing bars is longest but cheapest and you actually make a profit - you could also mine your own ores aswell. I don't have xp per hour since i've only done 60 - 70, i suggest steel though. Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!
June 22, 200818 yr superheating Gold ores is a good way. +70k exp an hour + the mage exp of course. Also Steel/mithril/addy plates are Great exp. (yes really great)
June 22, 200818 yr If u mean smelting bars kingjoe, ur crazy, by the time he would get to lvl 85 he will be bored out of his mind!!! Smelting is terribly slow, especially with steel, that's so insane, that he just might kill himself over it....will take him 3 years at minimum with smelting, if dedicated... 1673rd person to 99 smithing! June 22, 200818 yr What I have been doing is using the mithril ores dropped by ankous (the bottom level of the Stronghold of Security) and smithing those into items. Whichever items you want to smith is at your discretion of course. I can usually buy the coal for a cheap price and sell the smithed items (usually mithril armor sets) for a decent profit. While I do not do this too often (I am not ultra-concerned about smithing). I have made large amounts of money and received decent xp for it. A lvl 115 warrior and still growing.

June 22, 200818 yr I would rather save myself the misery and the hours of my life wasted smelting, than I would wanna save some money, you can lose all the money with bars, and gain it all back within the time it would take just to smelt the bars..... -.- 1673rd person to 99 smithing! June 23, 200818 yr Buy iron ores, smelt them, smith them to knives, resell. The exp isn't great, but the profit is amazing, even higher if you just resell the bars. Going for 99 Smithing!!
