June 5, 200521 yr Blah 2000 bucks. You can get a VERY nice computer. I would buy a used one. Go search on ebay. Look at the Dell Precision or Alienware cuz those two are usually good deals. (Im a lil biased on this cuz i usually go for computers with dual processors and RAID built in) What you can get with 2 grand: Dual 3-3.4gig Xeon or a 3.6gig P4 Quadro FX-XXXX Geforce 6XXX or ATI 9XXX-AT X8xx 1-2 gb of ram 36gb of HD if your going for a SCSI 10k RPM - 15k RPM (usually its in RAID 0 config) 160+ if your just going for a regular ATA-133 drive. I would most likely get something like this: AMD Athlon64 3500+ 1024 MB Ram (Of any brand that doesn't scream 'no name' out loud) 36GB 10k RPM SATA HDD (Western Digital Raptor) 200GB 7.2K RPM SATA HDD (Any) Geforce 6800GT 256MB PCI-E [or] Radeon x800XL 256MB No, this will not cost 2k US dollars. But it will be fast enough, and there is little reason to spend more. Of course there is room for improvement, but getting top-of-the-line stuff is usually a waste. No doubt you will be able to find other things to spend the excess money on :P

WHen i play games i have like a billion other stuff running, usually downloads with BitComet so dual processor is very nice in that situation.
June 5, 200521 yr i just bought a imac g5...2gig processer..9600 RADEON ...1 gig ram..flat screen(17"). lol i know everone laughs at macs but i wouldnt own nething else...no viruses( or very few..been running a mac for over 5 years and have had only 3 minor viruses in that time) and no CONSTANT software upgrades..fixes for the upgrades..patches for the fixes of the upgrades etc . mac is MADE for ONLINE gaming and graphics right off the shelf

June 24, 200521 yr Ouch pyro, don't supose you would be willing to back up the need for a 10K rpm hdd? They're nice, but i'd be more inclined to suggest them for people looking for heavy media editing pc's than gaming :-? Also, if you want a TFT, then you better be getting a single figure ms. And depending on size, chances are you'll be looking at 300-400 on that for a decent brand. But I'm with pyro with most of it other than the 10k rpm WD drive. - AMD Athlon 64 3500+ - 1GB dual channel DDR - 200GB 7200 rpm SATA HDD Can't argue with the video card. Not familiar with their price so whichever. The only other thing which will posibbly run you into some trouble is the motherboard and a GOOD case. And knowing the purpose, I'd go with either two 80mm intake front bottom, with either two 80mm exhaust top back. Or 120mm fans. Probably wouldn't hurt to pickup a few meters of cable sleving and heat shrink aswell. Actually, you could possibly bump that up to a 3800+ or perhaps 2GB dual channel ddr. doubtfull on both though since I'm not 100% sure on the cost of the 3800+ in the states. It's fairly cheap in Australia though. I used both in a similar setup a few weeks ago which got up to about 2.7K Australian. I'll just get the list now. Take note these are Australia prices listed.... June 24, 200521 yr Ouch pyro, don't supose you would be willing to back up the need for a 10K rpm hdd? There's no need for a 10k rpm HDD, but I would prefer having one rather than spending tons on a slightly faster processor. You'll get faster loading times for various tasks, including boot.
