killerbeer0
To begin with, I've lurked here for a while and have failed to find a thread that addresses my question to a satisfactory extent. I've been p2p for a few months now and am unsure how I should continue training; balanced melee or range. My stats are at the moment: 70attack 70strength 70defense 51prayer 71ranged 52magic 73hitpoints 10summoning My character is worth a total of about 3.5m ( ) and I much prefer to make money on drops (I'm working towards God Wars or KBD soloing) rather than grinding at woodcutting or fishing or whatever. I can afford 99 in Ranging so melee of course, being cheaper to train, would be easy to max as well - but I really don't think I have the patience to max both. I've weighed both the pros and cons of melee over ranged or vice versa and really cannot seem to make a decision. Ranging: [*:4hjzm23g]Pro: Cheaper to get top level gear. (For blessed dragonhide and ranger boots, robin, etc. is only maybe 10m - in melee I could spend well over 100mil on gear) [*:4hjzm23g]Pro: Less money used on food. [*:4hjzm23g]Pro: I like having a sense of uniqueness that melee fails to provide. [*:4hjzm23g]Pro: Only 1 skill to max out! [*:4hjzm23g]Con: No truly awesome weapon to buy, for looks the Seercull is all I can find, and the magic shortbow looks really stupid with blessed dragonhide (I prefer guthix, and I am a stickler about how my character looks) [*:4hjzm23g]Con: Doesn't hit as high as melee, crossbows are too slow (and unrealistic - in real life they required 2 hands) to really make up for this. [*:4hjzm23g]Con: Ammunition cost can be high... though this is no big deal to me as I plan to be making money on whatever I'm shooting. Melee: [*:4hjzm23g]Pro: Cheaper to get to top levels. [*:4hjzm23g]Pro: Hits hard and and can do so at high speeds (though the slower weapons generally make up for it). [*:4hjzm23g]Pro: Some truly awesome gear available such as the Zamorakian spear and the barrows sets (I want Guthans)... not to mention the Saradomin Sword. [*:4hjzm23g]Con: Top level gear can cost ridiculous sums of money. (I'd probably want full Bandos, maybe a godsword) [*:4hjzm23g]Con: Nothing unique about choosing melee. [*:4hjzm23g]Con: Many level 99 skills required to "max out". I hope I can get some help here (things such as time taken to max out and usefullness in team-based events like godwars would be helpful). Please keep in mind that I plan on killing things for money, so long term costs put melee in a position where it seems to be more expensive. Please help, I want to go to godwars with friends and want to be as effective as possible (big surprise). I also want to be able to make my money with other combat-based things like slayer. OH S***! He/she/it is back!
Sy_Accursed
Why train a combat type? =S If you insist on power trianing do all 3 If not just do slayer and then train which suits the monster your fighting. Afterall these days in rs having only 1 combat type is suicidal against many things. baileydafrog
what about armadyll an stuff? top end range stuff can still cost quite a bit, even if it doesn't compare with prices on melle, personally I love range, though saying can afford with 3.5m, maybe true, but would take a hell of a long time
Lacoste
dont just train one, train them all, you will be way more useful as a 90 90 90 90, then 75 75 75 99, or 99 99 99 80.
kdog2fast
Train them all for sure but range helps alot if you want to make cash. With pc you can make some cash and range easy with no threat. Still however range and def are needed for arm at gwd. I recommend getting range up with def for fat cashthen switching to melee/magic. Or do slayer for the works and cash. killerbeer0
I guess I'll melee my 100 slayer assignments (I want the slayer helmet real bad) OH S***! He/she/it is back!
Skilling0wn
Armadyl + Dark Bow & Dragon Arrows. That's expensive. So it's way beyond 10M.
