5 -> 15

Recommended Posts

Again,

5 minutes only allows around 120 registered accounts at maximum which downgrades the true activity of Tip.it. If it was at 15 minutes, I bet it would have like 210 registered users online regularly and in the low 400s with traffic. It really does make a great difference.

One example is, some idiots (new players) look at Tip.It as a "small fansite" when it was the first fansite ever and is the 2nd largest fansite. Also, the best and most informative fansite. Yet, many new players think Tip.it is just a small fansite.

:(

now that we're on the topic of activity. may i ask why you can set to not show you're online. there no reason for that at all -.- if you're using the forums you should be shown as online ;)

I believe some staff use it when they have taken time off from staff duties so they are not bothered \'

  • 2 weeks later...

So before this gets too far off of the 1st page, a few questions to the admins about this:

1. What's the final opinion from the overall staff about changing this, or the topic (Will it be changed)?

2. Has a double list been considered, where there's one for the 'Whose Online' & 'User Was Last Online'?

Simply to increase the amount of "active users". Why not? It gives an image of a more active forum. What is there to loose? Nothing.

Tip.it is the 2nd biggest Runescape fansite. Changing to 15 minutes, I'm sure, would perhaps even increase the amount of "active users" by 100! Unregistered accounts (guests) CAN view the board stats (active users, guests, hiddens, ect ect). If they saw 196 active users online instead of 96, there are much much more chances of them making an account.

Again, why not? There is nothing to loose. No bandwidth to pay for.

Nah, this wouldn't do anything. There is plenty to lose. As I have stated, it's annoying to send someone a private message, but to realize they've already logged off and you have to send it to someone else.

And as I've already stated the better it would be to have two lists tracking, not just one. Which would mean there's nothing to lose if implemented with two lists, or whatever.

The whole two lists thing might be interesting... admins opinion?

The only reason that it would be slightly useful would be if all the other fan forums are on a 15 minute thingy (don't know if they are), so the activity could be compared easily.

But really it's not that much use, and I think my point is probably over ruled by Tripsis's long posts pointing out things I haven't thought of. :twss:

Zybez's is now set at 15 minutes. Maybe it would be best to change it to 15 minutes now? To easily compare activity.

And while we're at it, Tipit should support swiftswitch. :roll:

Zybez doth not a forum standard make.

That is irrelevant in my opinion. And so is the reasoning that Killerred gave. I wouldn't want that to be the main, or any part of the reason we switched the minutes. The reasons I'd like us to switch to 15 minutes is posted up and on page 1.

And thanks for bumping. ::'

Why should we give a false illusion of activity? It's much more handy to just keep it at 5 minutes. We know the forum is active, the users know it is active, I do not see what else the need for 15 minutes would do. Even a guest could see over 200 users in 5 minutes is active. :/

1. Guests will only look at the users, most will disregard the 'time', and just do a straight comparison.

2. We're not giving a false illusion of activity unless you've found a way to disprove what I've already posted.

3. It may be handy but it's not doing very much, and if it's not doing very much and perhaps hurting Tip.It in a minor way, why is it enabled?

4. We, and the users may know it's active, but people deciding between forums don't know.
