Runescape in the mmorpg community

Featured Replies

RS excels in some aspects, and is incredibly lacking in others. Fanboys have no discernment for either, because they love the game unconditionally. Same goes for haters, but you don't run into them often on tif. The MMORPG community is biased some, but do have some valid points about RS.

A quick list of pros and cons:

Pros

Endless things to do, very vast content

Good value for money

Updated very frequently

Accessible

Good lifespan

Good character customization

Relaxing, good break from high intensity games

Creative in some aspects

Addicting... for a time

Solid, no bugs, or glitches, or annoying mistakes left on the way

Cons

Poor graphics (including the updated ones)

Awkward controls

Community flooded with annoying idiots

Bad music

Overly strict rules

Takes about 2 years of levelling to unlock the most interesting aspects of the game, before that the game is a dud

Very grindy at high levels

Poor PVP

Poor immersion

The combat system has nothing for it

Nonexistant customer support

Bottomline is, RS is not bad, but you definitively won't find the excitement of high intensity/ high graphical/ good music/ immersive/ intuitive MMORPG in it. It's good at what it does: cheap, fun, deep, and relaxing, but don't expect more.

"No mercy for the weak, no pity for the dying, no tears for the slain"

I really don't care what other people think about the fact that I play runescape. Most people out there judge a game based on their graphics, which is why they like WoW, guild wars, etc better. Most games are about combat, only. In WoW it is all about combat. You train to fight, you do quests to fight, you fight so you can fight other things. I tried it before and I was told I wouldnt like it till I was level 70. While In runescape, you never have to level up one level to still be able to play. It all comes down to the oldest argument since the dawn of gaming: Graphics vs. Gameplay.

Runescape is as fun and addictive as you think it is. Ignore the other people.

Hmm i didn't even know PKing was gone until people started spamming about it O-o

Playing rs for 4 years and world of warcraft for 2, I can safely say that world of warcraft has a better community, combat system, and a better system if you enjoy killing monsters in groups. However, the game cuts off when you hit level 70 and become "geared". In runescape, you'll never run out of things to do. Also, runescape is the only game with a complex skilling system. In games like world of warcraft, you get to choose a measly 2 skills to train (and they are easy to max within 12 hours.)

It all depends what you want, a quick finish, endless combat, giant raids, or skills and endless activity.
