Runescape in the mmorpg community

As for the point of this thread; Good for you? You say that if you hadn't started playing when you did, you'd just be another one of the narrow minded children that spamming forums that runescape sucks. As for getting help, I never got any, and it didn't affect me playing. I also didn't start off with Runescape, I had played Everquest and Ultima Online before coming over to Runescape.

 

First of all, ive been playing for years... i said that after reading posts like this on the site, i would have the mentality to hate the game and jus look over it cuz thats what is being implemented to me. All that is what the community there thinks not me...and i didnt quit for any of the reasons above, i am just done with runescape, was great fun while it lasted

I guess RuneScape could be considered that. Everyone I've talked to about RuneScape that plays WoW is completely biased. Same with the other way around. I guess I have to agree that you can't beat your first.

I've got a couple of points on this.

 

 

 

1. Runescape can't be compared to most MMORPG's, for one even jagex don't call it an MMORPG. But in reality, runescape isn't like any other MMO out there, when you think of an MMO you think some korean badly translated game where you kill thousands of x monster to level up, move onto y monster kill it thousands of times to level up, move onto z monster etc etc etc. You get the occasional game thats 'slightly' different like WoW but the majority are the same. You get quotes like 'z game, like xMMO but better' whereas with runescape there is nothing else like it, its a niche in the market which is why its become so popular, it has things for hardcore gamers and casual gamers at the same time, and caters very well for both, wheras most other MMO's are just for hardcore gamers who will play 5 hours a day.

 

 

 

2. Runescape has less action than alot of other games, its more skill based nowdays than 90% fighting based of other games, the kind of gamers that 'crave' those korean mmo's get too bored by runescape (good i dont want them around here)

 

 

 

3. The MMO community is totally RUBBISH, compare it to another genre's community, i.e the FPS community and from what ive seen its not even on the same playingfield.

You make really great points here, thats what im saying...take silkroad, cabal, mu online or any other korean games, they have nothing compared to what runescape has to offer and still people have a better attitude toward them rather than runescape. As for there community i really asked around alot and couldnt find a site dedicated to mmorpg's. Gamespot community was biased aswell from a recent post i read.

Im an avid PC gamer, Nvidia 9600, Quad core at 3.2GHz, 1TB harddrive, my computer makes the PS3 look weak, performance and graphics wise. Now let me tell you, Graphics do not make a game. Fun does. I played Crysis, COD4, WoW ( :oops: ) and much much more that these 'real' gamers brag about. Out of all of them I perfer Runescape and I know that I will continue to do so. Any true gamer, will not bash another game. If they don't like it they want talk about it, simple as that. What you ran into are called 'fan boys', very annoying [puncture]s they are.

 

 

 

I like Runescape because of its simplicity, I hate game's with a million differnt controls. If anything, the fanboys you ran into are biased, if anything only those 12 year olds are immature (there are some mature one's tho :P). I know so many people in univerrsity, college, adults and much more who play Runescape and perfer it over other games. And just so you know, the kids you ran into are calling themselves GAMERS LOL! If you think RS's rep is bad because of fanboys like these, just check the rep of all MMO's in general. I assure you, go to any FPS game, any other community who play system games they will have their share of fanboy's who will be bashing on MMO's. All MMO's have the same concept, train train train. All games are 'click and stare and watch them get xp'. They think there better because they have to press f3 then 'I' for the inventory and some attack key again?

 

 

 

Runescape is a real game, a real MMO, with just a lot of fanboy's hating on it. Probabbly because they got scammed/hacked/died and couldn't live with it. If they say they played for 20 minutes and quit, why are they constantly so angry with the game if they played it for 20 minutes? They played it a lot lot more. Anyways that is just my little rant :D

I woudl not be suprised to find out that the greater mmorpg community regards RuneScape as the cespol of mmorpg's (community wise). I am also not supprised that Jagex is spending so much effort on making it easier to get into the game. Things have changed since RS was created and I am sure most people who have made an account never spent more than a week playing because, lets face it, if its your first time and your not a serious gamer, this game absolutly sucks to start out. I have been playing since the time you could transfer items from RSC to RS2 and I still wouldn't wan't to start another account somply because its boring as anything and people take one look at a single digit CB level and turn into a fountain of immature insults that make 'poopy facee' look like a serious inssult.

 

 

 

The nice players have all become masters of blending in, and being ignored by those people who also post on the RSOF (which probably is the cespool of mmorpg players worldwide), or would if they were members. I don't train alot which is easy to see by looking at my stats and seeing that I have been playign for years (one year as a memeber). I don't train because it bores me so much. I slowly whitel away and do whatever takes my fancy. I have enough skills that I can do most things and still have fun doing it. The only thing I can't do is fight high level monsters which I quite honestly don't find very fun at all. If I wan't to kill hordes of monsters, i'd play D2:LoD, or fight other humans in a space ship in subspace/continuum or if I really want a challenge, I'll play netrek. I play RS because it's different and the tip.it forums are the primary reson I still enjoy the game since I have neither the time nor inclination to figure out everything anymore. I do most all quests without guides (sometimes I read the part about what to bring since I hate running around when I don't need to), but I will not risk my charecters life by not knowing what danger to expect.

 

 

 

RuneScape reqires no skill in the sense that physical dexterity and reflexes mean nothing like they do in a pvp combat game such as subspace (which has been refered to as multiplayer asteroids on acid), or halo3 on xbox live. Heck, you don't even need to make much in the way of real time decisions like you would in an Age of Empires game when playign against other humans. There is some plannign involved in RuneScape but thats realy optional. RuneScape has its own charms, but the game reqires more determination and patience than skill. Its not a game where I could be in teh top 20 and be genuinly proud of myself. I respect the top players sure, but its not something I desire. I have no idea what other mmorpgs are like since I don't care to figure any out or pay for them. They can remain a mystery to me. If I want a true RPG, I have Baldurs Gate, BG2:SoA and BG2:ToB which are as far as I am concerned, some of the Best RPG's ever made.

This is pretty much a clever "WE WANT WILDY NO PK NO PAY" rant hidden behind what the Intertube thinks of Runescape.

 

 

 

But to answer the question, if I didn't play RS then I probably wouldn't have played any other MMORPGs, and I would be having fun instead of sitting in front of a computer answering this question. So no, I wouldn't care about other MMORPGs or what they think of Runescape because I wouldn't know about them.

Yes!, finally people are getting the point of the thread \ , well heres a thing about fanboys they always compare there game to runescape, its like a guy saying my mclaren can own that nissan 1999...thus giving you or the reader a complete junk thought of runescape, thats where the thing comes in you log on kill one thing and have a good laugh at it. Now ive also noticed runescape tends to be very low rated in sites aswell where as games like silkroad(which has 90% bots and 9%newbs) are praised more.

Just be glad us scaper's have a community like tip.it, to hang out and not be judged because we play a more varied and interesting game than some pure combat games

So thats all you did on Runescape so you quit? I enjoyed runescape more than just merchanting of pvp. Most people didn't quit except for the macros,mules,drop traders,rwters. They moved on from pking and if you were a good pker you'd adapt and go to bh and if you fail there well usually they go to cw and try to pk -.-. Frankly I'm mainly a skiller I guess but I do enjoy PvP and Boss Hunting too. Even though I rarley if ever pk'd or staked the loss didn't hurt me. But the trading did I'm the type of person who will give a friend something thats more than 30k maybe a B-Day gift(Happy B-Day Gothic Gaara) or something. But I'm still playing I enjoy GWD,skilling and alot of CW and frankly it never crossed my mind. Also when you say bad Graphics I want a list of every Java game with better Graphics than runescape. Frankly your just whining about pking,staking and ripping the uneducated off. We've heard it a thousand times and frankly I am tired of hearing whiny noobs whine about what Jagex did. I'm glad you quit because we don't need more whiners and spammer on the forum or in game. "OMG no pk no play omg!!!!!!!!!1" What am saying is it's been over 6 month your a bit late and quit whining and just forget about it.

 

 

 

If you rarely pked or staked then you really shouldn't tell people to simply adapt. BH is basically ruled by teams and kids with AGS's specing people. I tried everything to get back into pking with bh. I joined one of the best BH teams, then i tried AGS speccing, then i tried just oldschool rune and whip. Its just different, and not nearly as fun. The loss of the freedom is what ruined it.

 

 

 

Anyway, on topic, runescape has a decent community, but as all things, they are full of idiots sometimes. Aside from people of these forums, and a few others, RS is full of idiots for the most part. Seeing as most other games require the higher pay per month, parents are not as keen to spend it on their kids, so less 10 year olds get on, so less idiots are there.

OT: Runescape isnt an MMORPG in most peoples opinions. Mainly because its lacking 2 of the most important things, Massive and Multiplayer.

 

 

 

In games like WoW you level up by exploring the world and going to different places, in Runescape to level up most skills you just have to sit in a bank.

 

 

 

While there is multiplayer activity in the game, i think it should have more emphasis on killing monsters and getting rewards etc, instead of just being in a team for a clan war etc. Doing multiplayer should reward players in a good way.

Why yes, I have. Tif is a good community, It has plenty of areas for newer players to learn, and a entire forum section for people to ask and get feedback from other more experienced players. Most forums have these options, but lack the experienced players to give feedback, and therefor fail.

Trust me from personal experience on tip.it and gamespot(quit for reasons mentioned above), tip.it is almost free of ignorant people, and easily one of the friendlier communitys for runescape
