Psycho_Robot
I like clues. And I like herbs (but only legal herbs). So my question is are there any monsters that drop level 3 clues as well as a lot of herbs? A good charm dropper would be a plus as well. My budget is fairly low, so I'd like it if it were a monster that can be killed cheaply, or one that I could profit from even if I don't get anything good from clues (I will not sell herb drops however). Thanks in advance for your help!
D Jay99
Aberrant Spectres. Loads of ranarrs, lvl 3 clues and drop some charms too. If your mage/def is very high (90+), you might be able to tank them using a bunyip. Otherwise, their Rune helm/Snap seed drops will pay for most of the ppots needed. green9090
Aberrant specters. They are the best herb droppers in the game, have a pretty good blue charm drop rate, and also drop rune full helms, lava staffs and black mystic robe bottoms. The only disadvantage is if your defense is low you'll need to pray mage against them. However, they drop so many ranarrs that you'll end up with twice the prayer potion you use. Use a salve amulet (e) and they're fantastic melee experience as well! Psycho_Robot
How many p pots should I bring per trip?
D Jay99
Not that much. A super set, a tele out and ~8 prayer pots should do. Bring a Spirit Terrorbird pouch to hold extra herbs if you run out of inventory space.
Psycho_Robot
I'll need to get my summoning to 52 then! I've been meaning to get that for a long time anyways... I've heard a terrorbird is a great familiar.c I've heard that a Macaw makes the herb drops a lot better. Has anyone tried this? Is it worth doing? D Jay99
I tried it, but the herb drops didn't really improve. They seemed to drop slightly more herbs, but more high level like Lantadyme and Dwarf Weed. Those are worth less than ranarrs, so I guess that makes the Macaw kind of useless at Spectres. Psycho_Robot
Well I'm more interested in getting high level herbs than getting valuable herbs anyways, so I'll do it! Maybe get to 52 while making Macaw pouches (I doubt it though, I've heard green charms are bad xp)
green9090
The macaw is excellent at aberrant specters in my experience. I get more herbs ranarr AND above. However, I do feel that it is outclassed both by the terrorbird and the bunyip. What you could do if you don't have the bunyip and are praying, however, is bring a macaw, and when you get full, dismiss it and summon the terrorbird. Both pouches are so ridiculously cheap that this would not cost very much. Judobreaker
I can usually outlast a trip to the abberant spectres with one 4-dose prayer potion, just to return with a full inventory of herbs. (lvl 64 prayer) Most of the times I have at least 4 ranarrs with them so that pays back my prayer , super att and super str pots. My all time record was 15 ranarrs in one trip, not THAT is profit. stompmidget
If you dislike Spectres, Turoths are always an option. They don't drop as much herbs as spectres, but compared to other monsters there drop rate is very high. Turoths also seem to be my luckiest monster for clues and don't require any prayer potions... just throwing out an alternative. [/bads]

Psycho_Robot
I tried out the aberrant spectres today, and they were great! No clue yet, but they drop so many herbs I don't really care! As for the macaw, the minute I got full and dismissed it in favor of the terrorbird, I noticed a very sudden and noticeable decline in the quality and quantity of herb drops, it was like night and day. Told you so! I'm actually quite surprised that Jagex designed something to improve drops that so obviously works. It really isn't like them lol :P Join "DG Sweepers" Clan Chat for Dungeoneering Floors | Accepting all tipiters who are Willing to Learn |
Assassin1357
I use 1 p pot per trip, it will last me the entire trip. I also take either a super str or a d baxe for its special.
Lenticular_J
Turoths aren't bad if you can't kill aberrant spectres, by the way. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

coza_17
Bring prayer potions (you'll recover the loss easily) and war tortoises or terrorbirds to hold extra items. I only bother picking up ranarrs and kwuarms, the other herbs aren't really worth anything.

I only bother picking up ranarrs and kwuarms, the other herbs aren't really worth anything. I always go by this: If you have the room, why not pick them up? and besides, since your sometimes have the extra space, and can always drop them anyways, pick up harralanders, 1k is better then an empty space when the trip is done. (Dang, that sounds like a really long, confusing, and pretty dumb saying.)

Something I can't use now is just something I can use in the future! I'd pick up harralanders, but with the macaw, you get so many other good herbs you don't have any room for them!
