Adverts

Ok f2p folks has an option to report adverts that creates extreme lag during game play..

Well.. personally encountered this advert by 'Jamster'... reported 4 such adverts from this company..

All reports received and had a feedback by Jmod; expressing their thanks and welcome feedback..

But.. 2 weeks down the road, the same advert remains..

If Jagex can't remove reported adverts, why in the first place allow players to report.. :x

2 of the occurence happened when i was in wilderness ranging.. where revernants are rampant.. luckily no death or encounter at the time of lag..

:x :x :x

They have probably already been paid for the month to display the ads. So, they have to fulfill the contracted obligation. They do not, however, have to renew such an obligation. It may also be something with your computer, such as needing to update this or that to prevent it from slowing you down. When they come up, make sure you right click and set them to low resolution, that should help with some of it until they are removed.

More like, they care about lagging but can't do anything because of a legally binding contract requiring them to show the ad until said contract runs out.

Probally what is happening,

They also need a number of people to report it, if only you and say 20 others experience some lag compared to the x amount of money there paid from the advert, their gonna stick with the advert, its just good business really.

Theres a fine line between not listening and not caring,

I like to think I walk this line every day.

Pinning blame on Jagex is like trying to put pants on an old man.

You both know he needs them, but he'll just keep dancing around, avoiding them at all costs.

To be honest, i really dont think Jagex care about the lagging at all... Just about the bucks they get from advertising.

I really dont understand how Adverts can make that much lagg... I mean, we get adverts on all our normal websites (Tif for example), yet our Runescape browsers do not lagg.

I honestly believe that a large part of the lag created by the advertisements is dependent upon your video card. That's one of the reasons that rendering on low resolution will help a lot of players with their lag problems. The higher end video cards will handle the rendering much better, so having to render an ad that moves and rendering the game image isn't so hard on it, on the lower end cards, the extra rendering causes that much extra work for the card so it lags, especially with an ad with a video type component.

What would work best to combat the lag, imo, is if you could set the render level of the ads so that they would load at a low level instead of trying to load at high level all the time.

And, if Jagex didn't care about the lagging, just imagine how many potential players will be turned off by a laggy game, I'm sure they do. And, if a P2P player wants to play with their f2p friends, they also have to put up with the ads. Honestly, I believe that Jagex would prefer that the ads be as non-intrusive as possible. While they do not make the ads that are displayed, they may have to host and broadcast them, therefore their own bandwidth is being used by these ads, if the ads are eating up too much bandwidth, it degrades the playing experience for everyone and requires more of an investment on their part to allow a large enough allotment of bandwidth for smooth playing and the advertisements.

Mostly, I think you shouldn't bash Jagex because your computer isn't up to par, or for things that are beyond their control (such as the load caused by the ads), find a workaround to begin with and then make suggestions for a proper improvement.

Oh, and two weeks really isn't long enough, most of the advertisers pay for a month at a time. They can't afford to pay back an advertiser that they have accepted, but that doesn't mean that they have to make a new deal with them.

And, using an adblocker is against the rules. None of the advertisements Jagex uses are pop-ups anyway. If you're getting those, they're comming from elsewhere.

my system config meets the minimum config status via low detail mate.. so that's not the issue now..

well they could perhaps relate back to the player what has been done with regards to the complaint logged. If my system that is able to meet the minimum system config, i am sure there are players out there having the same lag issue..

I don't think you could boot up if you didn't meet the minimum stats, my 6 year old desktop has 4x everything, and my new desktop, well... the memory card is around 15 times, the ram 32, the CPU 12x, etc. etc. etc. Even my ancient (10 months old) laptop has at least 8x all the reqs. Even a stone-age computer that "meets" the "requirements" can still run it, but might lag considerably when asked to do anything else.

The minimum requirements are to run RUNESCAPE, not the ads along with it, although they should require that the advertisers make their ads so that they will not interfere with gameplay when run on a machine with the minimum requirements. The bashing comment was actually not aimed at you, but at other posters (you didn't seem to be bashing to me anyway).

Honestly, you can usually run programs on a machine that doesn't meet the minimum specs, but it will run much slower (lagging and such). There is also a question of what other programs you have running and how memory intensive they are, both known and unknown (running an audio program, firewall, virus scanner, MSN, Skype, Yahoo messenger, quicktime, real player, etc). And, how many websites you may be visiting.

I supose one of the big questions may be whether it is your COMPUTER that is suffering the lag or your CONNECTION. If it's your computer, try and cut down on the background programs as much as possible. If you don't need it while playing, shut it off. Don't browse and do other things. If it is your connection, about the only thing you can do there is to upgrade your connection, or try not to have so many things using the connection at the same time (again, MSN, Skype, Browsers, etc).

Finally, when those ads come up and you start to lag, scroll up to them, right click and set them to low detail. It's not a great work around, you have to keep on top of it, but it usually helps reduce the lag experienced. I'm not certain if it's video memory, or ram (It doesn't appear to be connection as much) or if it's the Java client, but on high detail, some of the ads on high detail seem to chew up the resources while they load.

I've gotten a reply from 3 individual Jmods.. saying the same thing.. i.e, select lower details etc.. aniway doesn't solve the lag..

but i work ard the lag by setting priority level on my task manager.. so far it's working fine.. @ least i am not freezing when that jamster advert pops up..
