Well today i decided i want to take a break from fighting Spiders in S.O.S and thought i would go to the Cockroach Soldiers for a bit. Okay so this is strange. Usually when going to the Cockroach Soldiers i get 1 rune drop, 2 rune drops if im really lucky. Well with my second kill i get a Rune SQ, and my second last kill i get a Rune SQ aswell. I banked, came back and the second trip was even better. I got 3 Rune SQ's and a Rune Scimi. Is this just dumb luck, or might this be due to some kind of update? If this isnt luck i might be considdering to train there for a while, since they are really good money to me now.

probably it's just luck...those creatures drop quite a lot of good items for f2p players though...but when i think about what p2p bosses like zilyana and keera drop the rune items kinda seem a bit of a joke =P of course cockroach soldiers aren't bosses...

Can't complain, dumb luck if you ask me :

All drops in runescape are luck. Jagex has explained there drop system as a roulette wheel. To get a "rare" item you must spin say 1 number on the wheel and then you get a spin at a 2nd wheel. Each spin would be randomly automated and probability sometimes can be beaten by luck :)

Yeah seems my luck has just ran out. I got a total of 14 Rune SQ's and 9 Rune Scimis in the first 5 trips, and from then on only 1 rune item per trip.

One rune item per trip is decent. ;)

I have about the same stats as you and often get up to 5 rune drops (squares and scimmies) a trip (i do trips with 15 monks and 2 super str/att pots). I usually get at least 2 rune drops, but 5 drops occur quite often, my estimation is about 2-3 out of 10 trips). On average I get 2-3 rune items a trip. But since the drops are random, sometimes you won't get any.

 

 

 

I like to go to cockroach soldiers for training because they provide reasonably good XP (never measured XP/hour though), reasonably good drops for training monster and a steady, but not great source of crimson charms. The profit from the drops about covers the loss from using the crimsons for summoning too.

Im fightin these now. Gonna see if I can get as lucky as you. Although I tend to get decent drops from these anyway.

Meh, luckier than me at least. On a good trip I get 1-2 rune drops. That's usually only 1/3-5 trips. Oh well, I always profit with the laws/deaths/mith and addy ores they drop.

I like them, I don't know about charms. I'd doubt it's an update. The first time I went there I got no drops. Use a famliar if you are p2p, if not w/e. Still the rune drops pay for a lot, and they always are pretty good. Luck can help though.

Okay well im getting members soon, will they still be a good way for me to get a good amount of exp and money, or would slayer be better?

Well, they have good charm drops, and are decent money but a lot of slayer would be better. (Once you get like 30ish)
