I know this is a tad on the spammy side, but it's just meant to be a discussion.

I am in no way saying that Michael Jackson or OJ Simpson are guilty, but after a discussion at dinner it seems that the only celebrity-esque people that are actually doing time are the ones for the not so bad crimes. I mean Martha Stewart is in jail right now, and I know what she allegedly did is illegal, but it didn't really hurt anyone. The guy/people at Enron are in jail I believe. I just find it odd that the cases that are truly bad dont' end up putting anyone in jail. That guy just recently..robert blake? Who was an actor and supposedly killed his wife didn't even get put in jail either.

Honestly, all of the people I named may not be guilty, but OJ's case for instance had a lot of evidence that proved him guilty. I just don't see why we're putting people in Jail for smaller crimes vs. putting people in jail for homocide (if they are guilty, infact).

If none of the people were guilty then nevermind, but this just seems to be happening quite a bit.

It's odd. Everyone has that feeling that michael jackson was guilty. He still could be. There was just not enough evidence to prove that he was.

The problem with the gene pool is that there's no lifeguard.

Yea it was a joke on i think leno. Sth about martha steward only making a phone call and thrown in jail. and sth about micheal.

Then if michael was black, he would have been thrown in jail immediately.

And Russell Crowe could've gotten 7 years for throwing a phone across a room giving a hotel working this pathetic 1" SCRATCH on his cheeck.

Honestly, the justice system is just screwed up.

And the hotel worker guy was going for 2mil comp, from what I've read in the papers / seen on tv and such. I don't know what's worse:

That it probably would've been successfull, or that Crowe would've gotten 7 years for something that happens in suburban homes fairly often with no jailtime for any of those people :-?

but OJ's case for instance had a lot of evidence that proved him guilty.

At the time though, DNA testing was so new that it wasn't considered proof.

Also, a lot of the Enron people are still walking.

Martha Stewart only got, what, 6 months?

Michael Jackson had virtually no evidence against him- just a bunch of heresay from untrustworthy accusers.

Celeberties either

1) Get charged for things they didn't do

or

2) Get off easy

Then if michael was black, he would have been thrown in jail immediately.

OJ Simpson was black.

Insider trading and fraud does hurt people and quite badly. What if you invested a large sum in Enron and are banking on the hopes that an energy company is a safe and sound investment so you can make some money to live off from. It's not fair to invest in a company who is fiddling their books, if I changed my books to say that I'm getting record profits when in fact I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m losing money is just an outright lie and investors can get screwed over by it.

Remember when you win on the market most of the time someone else is losing, same thing with Stewart. If you buy when you know your going to make record profits or make a deal which will make the company lot's of money is cheating and deceitful to the shareholders.

I have no sympathy for people who cheat on the stock exchange, sure the other people did do some bad things but I feel fraud has far wider effects then killing 1 person or molesting a few kids, Fraud can affect and ruin thousands of peoples' lives.
