(semi)Official Changes to the PMG forum

Recommended Posts

After much discussion, us (the pmg mods) have came up with final changes to our Player Made Guides and Archive of Wisdom forum. But, before putting these into effect, we would like to hear from the tipit community.

So here is our plan:

[MF] Archive of Wisdom (has all the AOW guides)

[sF] General Guides

[sF] Beginning Guides

Key: SF = Subforum | MF = Main Forum

Here's how it will go. All new guides will be posted in the "beginning guide" section. If a PMG moderator feels like the guide is ready to be moved to the general guides, that will be done. If the PMG moderators feel a guide in General Guides is worth AOW, we will have a quick discussion (to insure no bias) and the guide will be placed in the AOW forum, or remain in the General Guides forum. If we feel a guide needs to be moved down a forum (for reasons such as not being updated or bad updates to the guide), we will discuss that with the guide maker.

So, what do you all think? Please share your suggestions and complaints with this new possible change to the Player Made Guide forum.

I think it sounds great. The only thing I can't stress enough is how much the moderators will need to stay on top of their new tasks (for both your sakes and the users' sakes). This new arrangement will require the moderators to do a lot of reading, assessing and interacting with users. Please make sure that you guys are up to the job before implementing anything.

Awesome! Was really looking forward to this, my hopes are filled! This is great motivation for guide writers like myself.

You Mods will be putting an awful lot of work reading all them guides. Hope you guys get on OK with that!

When are these changes due to effect?

Are you guys still having the awards system idea? I think after all the reading something should be given! :P

Are some (Outdated) AoW guides being removed? Besides a up-to-date few, you should start with a clean empty forum. Get rid of the junk guides in Others guides and skill guides, and keep the updated few. Or even prehaps have a form to be sent to a AoW mod to keep it in? Otherwise get rid of everything.

Just some thoughts. <3:

I would say sometime this month, but it really all depends on the feedback we recieve here.

It's been tossed around a lot, but our current thought is that the AOW system takes it's place.

Yes, AOW or not, every guide will be inspected and moved to the correct place soon after this update is done.

Wouldn't it be better to have people make guides, post them in the new guides forum, improve them or w/e, and then when they feel they are ready, just pm a mod(there'll be a list) and ask for the guide to be moved. The mod will then examine the guide, and either move it if it's worthy, or deny the application because the guide needs more work to be moved.

This would decrease the amount of unnecessary work by far. Some people would post in the new guides section, because they make a new guide and want to improve upon it, even though it may be, say, a very good guide that deserves moving right away, even though the writer isn't quite finished yet. It should be up to the author to pronounce when they believe their guide is ready or not and then a mod should see whether it deserves moving or not.

Just my opinion.

EDIT: Just to clarify: My proposal is that instead of mods examining guides first, they should mainly by getting pms, and then examining the guides, instead of the other way 'round, although to start with, the stated way will be better, as many authors will be absent

I assume that the new guides forum will have all posting permissions, and the finished guides forum will be only replies, no posting new topics?

Also, constructive cristiscm should be extremely encouraged in the new guides forum, to help improve the new guides and make them better, so that they are better able to be moved into finsished guides forum.

That is a very good idea, tryto!

Not much more to say, except "can't believe I didn't think of that first". :P

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?

It seems like a very practical idea, and should sort the guides out.

Oh noes! I have to upload all the images to my guides :x

Can you make it a rule that only significantly finished guides can be posted? If people need feedback about certain things like xp rates it is fair enough, but some people post a section about levelling 1 - 20 and for the rest say "I'll post this later".

A great idea imo, and I look forward to seeing it implemented. :)

Guides like this will be posted in the beginning guides, where they can recieve CC.

Hmm..sounds great, cant wait for it to happen. Will we be having awards or not with the new scheme?

All guides will have to go back to beginning guides and work their way up.
