I want a flatscreen monitor for my new computer (The only one I have is one from a 1997 micron machine). What are the best deals under or at 200 dollars. Can you get a decent lcd for 100 dollars?

 

 

 

Also I want a graphics card for fifty dollars or less. I don't do a whole lot of hardcore gaming but I really need some sort of card. What would this be? How much would I have to spend to be able to run say CoD 4?

For the LCD, depends on what size you are looking for and a graphics card under $50 will run COD4 but not with all the eye candy turned up. Look for at least a nvidia 8600gt

 

that can be found ~$80

Maybe a 17 inch lcd, decent quality.

Essentially my parents got a new computer. It was a super deal, cheaper than I could even make one off newegg, but doesn't have a dedicated graphics card and has extremely low quality ram. Everything else is great.

 

 

 

Got it at costco for like 550 dollars, at newegg it would've been 770 plus OS.

what specs does it have? Does the motherboard support DDR2-800,667,533 etc. and does it have PCIe slots for graphics cards?

For a graphics card, i can't really recommend you anything. (i tried HD 2400XT on a 250W PSU, didn't work, needed to upgrade the psu)

 

Because your power supply is only 300W, with all the other components... It's gonna be a close call. Maybe something like ATI 3450 might work, but i wouldn't count on it.

 

You really need to upgrade the PSU to something like 450 to be able to get a good graphics card there.

low wattage power supplies don't have enough juice to power powerful graphic cards as they demand a 6-pin PCIe connector straight from the PSU with some more demanding cards requiring 8pin or 10pins. I would recommend a good trusted brand such as Silverstone, Coolermaster, Zalman, Corsair, Thermaltake etc. for PSU's as poor quality ones will give you alot of crashes.

 

 

 

8800GT is a top end card with more than 2x the graphical processing power of the 8600GT, depends on what games you want to play really, 8600GT will run COD4 fine but not with AA or AF turned up to max.

I think you've just been unlucky.

 

Just like someone can have a problem with a graphics card. I mean, they produce great quantities and there's bound to be a couple that have a problem.

8600 or 8800gt.

512mb 8800GT version (or 9800GT, same card but manufactured with 55nm instead).

 

Will work for a good while in the future.

 

 

 

Tight budget? Get 8600gt ddr3 version. But you won't be disapointed with the 8800gt! =)

I'll look into it, I"m not in a big hurry.

 

 

 

In the long run I am intending to build a computer. What would be a great build that would be less than or equal to 1500 dollars?
