D Scimmy vs SS

Will the lack of defence with using a defender and not a DFS make my slaying more difficult? Currently I use Bandos and a whip/w DFS which allows me to get through almost every task without worrying about bringing food. There are some more tricky tasks where the monsters hit harder (Nechs for instance), but I don't mind bringing along a few monkfish if it means faster Str exp.

What is this "10% doesn't matter much" garbage that people are spewing on this topic? I'm not so good with timings and such but aren't the best melee training methods around 80k or so xp/hour? You've got....4,190,016 strength xp left to 99 judging by the hiscores, so that would be over 524 hours at 80k xp/hour(which sounds pretty fast but honestly I have no idea). Ten percent of that is over 52 hours...

So if this 10% difference figure is correct, and you can sustain 80k/hr xp gain for long periods of time, then the question becomes "Is 7ish m worth 52 hours of your life?"

On the defender vs. DFS subject. Considering slayer, the answer is a defender(I welcome you to present a valid example to contradict this). The ONLY melee example in which a DFS would be better than a defender(excluding dragons as they are a blatantly obvious exception) would be killing Supreme, but then a Godsword would be better, and that knocks out the shield option.

Lol, your figures are off by a factor 10. It's 52,4 hours, not 524. If the difference is really 10%, you're still saving 5 hours by using the ss instead of scimmy+defender. I guess the ss would drop about 2m max in the time you're using it, after that you can resell it. So, the question is, is saving 5 hours worth 2m? I'd say yes.

And yes, just bring some food to your slayer task and use a rune defender instead, if you are going to use the dragon scimmy. I'd recommend the ss though.

Hmm, it does the same for me. It's not a picture of one of my guinea pigs, but they look very similar to the one in the picture.

They're cute <3:

Does anybody know the actual exp difference between scim/defender and an SS though?

I really don't know, but given the stats, 8% is a good figure. To be honest, its probably worth it - if you really want to train strength, get the SS. I'd advise whip on controlled, but if it was me I'd probably do SS just to max out melees fast.
