atronic92
[hide=old post]I've built 2 computers before, but I still want to make sure this will work. I'm pretty sure that everything is compatible, but if someone could double-check, that would be great. I'm going to use the power supply that comes with the case because reviewers on NewEgg said that it was good enough for the graphics card and I won't be playing too many games anyway or any really new ones. So, how does this build look? This is going to cost me $900. Not bad, I think. In that case, which graphics card is better, an ATI Radeon HD 3450 or an NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS? Will they both be able to play games like Team Fortress 2 or Call of Duty 4? sloter
I would put vista x64 to use all your 4Gb of ram. Vista as x86 which you have will only see up to 3GB. Second don't buy Microsoft office seriously. Go find someone that works for a large company that give about oem's dirt [wagon] cheap and get one if you want Microsoft office. Better yet just download Open office that will work with Microsoft office files too.
atronic92
I understand the RAM problem, but the MoBo only has 2 slots so to get 3GB I had to get 2x2GB or buy a 1x2GB and a 1x1GB. This is just easier. Second, it is for my dad and he needs to run tax programs as he's an accountant, and there's no guarantees that they will work on 64bit Vista. Third, my dad is kinda picky, he wanted to buy a Dell and I convinced him that I could build a better computer for a better price. It is a necessity that he has Microsoft Office, and your idea of getting OEMs cheaply from a company sounds criminal, frankly. But, since you responded with no problems about my components, I will take this to mean that you found no problems with them, and that it will work. Thanks. :) "We will certainly not be gaining money or members with this update. Orpheus
It all looks good to me, but try to get a better power supply if you get a better graphics card, you'll get by with what comes with the case though. A 600W will suffice. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER. atronic92
Thanks ultimania. The computer is for my dad who doesn't like playing too many games, so I don't think I will need a better graphics card. "We will certainly not be gaining money or members with this update. The card will suffice for office stuff, graphics editing, stuff like that, and some low-end gaming if he should ever be into that.. I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. JoeDaStudd
For the a almost solely office PC with a little gaming I would be temped to get a AMD X2 4850+ cpu and a 780G motherboard. It should be a fair bit cheaper. Anyway you should get this ram instead it has a lower CAS and works out cheaper. Personally I would get this case, it looks smarter and less tacky (my opinion anyway). Plus its an Antec which are great cases the 380W psu is a good one and will easily handle your system. Plus its only $40 after rebates (a steal). Orpheus
Get the GTS, it's stronger, and cools more efficiently. It'll have no problems running Call of Duty 4 on medium. eggzs
The two cards you specified will play COD4/ TF2 but not with all the bells and whistles turned on. The 8600GTS is a significantly more powerful card than the 4350 but i would rather get a 9500GT which isnt that powerful but is the card that will replace the 8600 series. After playing 2 rounds of CW (won one, lost one game) lol, i got a chance to check this thread. @Atronic92: Why on earth do you want a pentium cpu? Is it to save money or what? Otherwise you have this C2D E7200, 2.53ghz You should be fine with that 400w (only info given) PSU. Since you aren't putting in any high-end stuff.
