ClareJonsson
Hi Folks, I'm looking for people who are good with Flash and have written any home brew games of their own. If you have written your own game that is Flash 7 then I have a proposal for you. A Korean company called Game Park Holdings are soon to launch a home brew handheld console called the GP2X Wiz, they are looking for free home brew games that you can give them that will be used on the NAND and supplied with the console, if they like your game, then they will give you a free console as a token of friendship. I developed a game called Myriad in a language called Fenix, and I have given them permission to use that, in fact their graphics designers have even given me updated GFX which I loved and used in the game, several other developers have also allowed them to use their games and they are also getting free consoles, some have already received pre production models and are very pleased :). For info of the console look HERE, it's the only handheld that has an AMOLED touch screen which means you can use it in direct sunlight! It's primarily designed for open source and already has a huge community ready to back it up, you can see the forums HERE. Those forums are all about the GP32, GP2X, Pandora and Wiz open source handheld consoles. Okay, if you do have a game that you wrote (you must be the author) and would like to submit it, then please let me know. I will pass your details on to the contents sourcing guy in Game Park Holdings and he will get back to you. He's a very nice guy, and will answer all your questions too. So to sum up, if you have a Flash 7 Game that YOU wrote, and would like a free Wiz Console, then let me know, and if they like your game, you're in! Take care, Clare. pryomancer
Damn, if only I could be bothered to learn Flash. :x That's a great offer, and the console looks pretty nice, too.
ClareJonsson
Yeah it is, they are sending me one this week :). The design is going to change very slightly as they listened to the community on the GBAX forums and are changing the buttons on the right to the standard ABXY style, but I want one soon so I am getting the model in the picture :), can't wait to see my game on the OLED screen :). JoeDaStudd
Looks good, just one question. Are there any other languages you can program these game in? As I made a few Lua games and was trying to move towards C++, but I don't really want to pay to get flash to create games. Edit just looked into Fenix and there site seems to be very buggy. [hide=Drops]Dragon Axe x11Berserker Ring x9Warrior Ring x8SeercullDragon MedDragon Boots x4 - all less then 30 kcGodsword Shard (bandos)Granite Maul x 3Solo only - doesn't include barrows[/hide][hide=Stats][/hide]

Yeah you can write games in C if you wish, they have an open SDL. Fenix is a bit of an odd beast, but I kinda like it. I have a dev environment setup so I can code for the Wiz already. And someone on the GP32X forums called Puck is currently updating the Wiz Fenix Runtime. Fenix is very good for those old style retro games, and has sprite, audio, collision detection etc already built in. Ideal for messing around with. My game Myriad was written in Fenix, and I am currently writing an updated version of Berzerk. Another Dev on the GP32X scene (quasist) is working on a 3D game engine as the Wiz has 3D capabilities built in. All in all it's pretty exciting, I hope my dev unit turns up soon :D [Assist-X]
thrash-boy
This is exactly the kind of thing i have been looking for! I've been developing flash games in flash 8 (AS2) for some time now, and never finished them because i never had the incentive to. im only 16 and are not interested in making money from them at this stage, so all i could do it put them on some stupid website and have people say thanks like they do to the other million people doing the same thing as me every day. before i continue im just wondering by flash 7 you mean flash MX 2004 (im assuming so)? also is flash 7 the maximum supported because using flash 8 would be better, but it is not necessary for anything i would want to make. also because im in Australia im not really interested in receiving a free console, just having people say thanks when its done for something that not everyone else has done (like publish games on the net). saying that dont expect a brilliant game from me, if i feel like making it good and putting alot of time into it i will, but don't expect A+ quality. Where can i get more info about this? i have never heard of this console before so i really need to know about that before i can start doing anything. im very interested in having a go at creating a game that i will finish for a change so give me the details please! Currently Flash 7 is the version that the Wiz supports. If you check out the Wiz website there's much info there, also on the GP32X Forums there is on going chat about it. If you PM me your email address I will send you more info, and if you like I can drop your address to the guys at GPH. Thanks for your interest and I am amazed you didn't want one of the Free Consoles. [Assist-X]
thrash-boy
ive pmed you my email. i might want a free console in the future but for now i just make flash games after dinner before bed for something to do when there's nothing on tv or anything else to do, and im not really interested in a console yet. i only do it because i like doing it and it gives me something that i really have to think about. its basically my brain workout. urbestfreind
This is coming like 6 months too early. We don't get into Flash in my game design class for awhile (going to VB soon, then Flash)...Guess it will be over by then =(. Oh well, the console looks very nice, may have to get one. Oh well, if it's open source I can probably still contribute later on. [hide=Funny Quotes]So you sucker punched a kid in the back of the head? Good job. What scares me is that you're like 10 years old.-.- im not that freaking youngYou were a couple years ago. It's not racist if its true.Hmm... ClareJonsson
Well one of the delights of the Wiz is it will have constant firmware updates and free game downloads on the site. When you get proficient and produce something you think may be good enough, drop us a line. You could always try coding in Fenix, there's a lot of resources and help for it :) [Assist-X]

JoeDaStudd
Just been looking over all the specs and details, it looks like a very worthwhile project to be part of. Give me a few days and I'll convert all my Lua games (Ok I there was only about 3 worthwhile ones, but hey) I made for the PSP over to C++ with SDL. Then hopefully they'll like them and I'll have a free console :D [hide=Drops]Dragon Axe x11Berserker Ring x9Warrior Ring x8SeercullDragon MedDragon Boots x4 - all less then 30 kcGodsword Shard (bandos)Granite Maul x 3Solo only - doesn't include barrows[/hide][hide=Stats][/hide]

I will probably talk to their contents sourcing manager tomorrow morning (They are 8 hours ahead of us, I think). Are you able to show us any screen shots as tasters? It would be great if you could. PM me if you like :) [Assist-X]
thrash-boy
I've looked over the entire forum link you posted at the top and i cant seem to find any topics about this contest. Do i have to register to see all the boards or am i just missing something? Thanks
ClareJonsson
This isn't a contest, the manufacturers are looking for games to supply with the Wiz and all people who's games they like enough and are used will get a free Wiz as a thank you gesture. Addition: for those who think this is too good to be true, I just want to give some info or incentive.: GPH feel that if they give you a gift of a free console as a thank you for letting them use your game, then it may spure you on to develop more software for it thus keeping this neat little open source console alive. Also, you will still have all rights to your own game, you're just giving them permission to include it on the internal nand. It makes sense that if you have a game that you're already giving away free, or even a brand new game nobody has seen before which is laying around doing nothing, then why not get something in return for it? You never know, if you're good enough they may even ask you to dev more stuff. Who knows where this may lead! Don't forget, even though there will be many commercial software available, this console is mainly aimed at the open source market. Many games that look really noddy on the surface are really fun to play, take the Wii for instance, GFX is no where as powerful as an XBOX360 or PS3, but it's incredibly fun to play. The Wiz is also more powerful than a PSP. If you're a clever coder, you might even get noticed and make a career out of it. It's what happened in the days of the Amiga, some of them uber demos people wrote got them noticed :) All in all, it may just be a bit of fun and you may get a free console with your game on it, how cool would that be to show off to your friends! Myself, I'm beaming as Myriad is already on it:) [Assist-X]
ClareJonsson
Well here's an update. My pre production Wiz turned up today all the way from Korea. And it's a nice handheld indeed! Smaller than what I imagined but the screen is amazing :) [Assist-X]
