Hmm, could you explain to me what that is exactly and what you do? Are you going to Iraq/Afghanistan?

JROTC is highschool military training. It stands for "Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps" but we do pretty much standard basic training things. Im taking Army JROTC so we do army things. We wear the army "greens" every thursday, perform drill and ceremony and we march. On fridays we do PT (physical training) and we study the chain of command of the US and things related to the military

I left that out ;) We are cadets. Each highschool semester we go through LET levels (Leadership, Education, and Training) similar to algebra 1, 2, and 3. We earn medals and ribbons and we can even do afterschool activities. Currently, Im the top shooter at my school in marksmanship.

I'm somehow in before Lenin. Wait for him, I know he's in JROTC, I think I'll link him here so you two can discuss.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

I take this very seriously, so please dont joke around.

Thats good. All to often do i see people in this taking it just to take it. I commend you for taking it seriously. Do you plan to continue into the real military after school? College ROTC? Military College?

JROTC is a good program, in most cases. Especially if you are joining the military after school. Heck it is even good if you don't go to the military. Discipline, self confidence, etc which are all taught are very useful things to hold in life.

Well, Ive been thinking about it quite hard. Im a freshman, so Ive got some ways to go, if I do join the military after school it will either be the Marines or the Air Force.

But, Im the most serious person in my battalion. Its frustrating when people dont do anything but mess up a formation >.<

Sorry for the delay, I had to go pick up my dad. He tried to run 20 miles, made it to 16 I think and had to stop at the drug store and wait for me to get out there

Yea, I'm in JROTC. Navy branch, 2nd year. We're currently at battalion status, but that's pretty shaky; next year we'll probably be a Company, but then again that's what they said last year. Ranked E3, but sometime in the next week or two (next time the air rifle commander cancels practice at the last second and I'm stuck at school *again*) I'm going to try for PO3. Sergeant, I think, for the other branches, or staff sergeant or something. Not too sure.

Currently on the air rifle squad, mainly helping out the newbies, one of which I really only know as "newbie". I'm not as agood a shot as the veteran shooters, though; I shake like nobody's business. I have great raw talent- even with the shaking I shoot at least 80 in the prone position and usually 180-190 total out of all 3 positions, and I'm great with a real rifle-but have yet to break 200 because of it :|

Last year's graduating class made Distinguished Unit their entire 4 years, which is pretty cool. Year 2's curriculum is Naval History, that's somewhat interesting. The rest of the time we're marching and such. Uniform inspections are Wednesdays and Thursdays, depending on when you have the class. So that's the basics of my battalion.

Nice. Im in the Army branch, we're an Honor Unit with Distinction and we have one of the top drill teams in the country.

Im also on the air rifle team, but we havnt really gotten to shoot much. This is my first year of JROTC but Im the best shot in my class because Ive been a good shooter all my life (I get it from my dad, this is one of my dads best friends. This guy holds a few world records. My dad is also a master class shooter on the Air Force Practical Shooting team.) Im also a hillbilly so I hunt a LOT.

Im looking forward to this thread :D

I know how you feel, and unfortunately you suffer with them even if you are perfect and they are nasty. Theres not much more that is motivating then close order drill and "popping sticks" as we call it.

Its quite ironic that i used to laugh at my friends in ROTC in High School, and here i sit, an E3 Lance Corporal in the USMC.

Yea, I get called a "pickle" every day we have uniform wear. It makes me mad, but meh.. Im probably more mature than them.

My Captain/Battalion Commander is my best friend so I get alot of extra authority :P

I would really be interested in looking into taking JROTC, but I don't think there's a program at my school. What are the requirements?

Self-discipline. I would reccomend looking up facive movements on youtube, and trying to get those down. Your MI would be surprised, I know mine was :P

But there isnt really any requirements, but I really suggest being mature about it.

Well if you want the program requirements beyond self-discipline (which technically isn't necessary to enroll; one of the program goals is to instill it), for at least this Unit, you need to be able to participate in physical education, some stuff about good moral standings, and don't be a big troublemaker, basically. Maybe a minimum 2.0 GPA, but I don't know for sure.

I'm assuming you're about 15-16, right? Junior? It would seem kind of weird to be starting JROTC as a senior, but there was a Junior in my NS1 class last year so I guess it's really no big deal. If there's not a program at your school, chances are there's one nearby, and you can apply for that one. The way it works here, a bus takes the Cadets from the other school(s) to ours for 1st period, then takes them back.

Look at the videos on these pages. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... type=&aq=f if you can study those movements and get them down, you'll go a lonnnngg way fast.

Try to study up on military stuff. But make sure you know what branch your high school JROTC is (ex. army, navy, air force)

Is there a website where I can make a search? Are these programs checked by the military? How do I know if the program is for real?

Google would probably work. Just look up JROTC standards or something like that.

While some parts of the program do mimic the military training, please do NOT call it military training. It is because of something like that that's resulted in numerous attempts to disband the program completely and receive very negative comments. :( If anything, it's a leadership program that uses some of the military techniques that help teach students that. It also teaches communication skills, first aid, good physical fitness, being financially responsible as you make your way towards college, how to go about getting a job (the program doesn't make you join the real military), etc.

Remember the motto: To motivate young people to become better citizens. Keep in mind it's not boot camp.

I was a part of the US Army JROTC program. Graduated as head S-4 (Logistics & Supply) as a Cadet Second Lieutenant (I joined the program during my sophomore year of high school). It is a wonderful program that helps bring people out of their shells. Went from awkward and shy to a lot more confident about myself, everyone in it was like being a part of a huge family, and it was a great place to be after school. :) It's how I found some great mentors in my life too. :D I didn't participate in special units (like Color Guard, Flag Team, Exhibition Team, etc.), but I still had a lot of fun just being a part of the battalion and brigade. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JROTC

Scroll down to the bottom for external links for the various JROTC programs.

Not only are the programs checked by the military, they supply the uniforms, textbooks, etc. and even run the Area Inspections, which is like the final exam for the whole unit in every detail. And the instructors are all retired servicemen from that branch, probably an officer and chief/master sergeant. Chances are if there's a program, it's real, especially if it's a public school, government funded and all that.

And I'm guessing that you would know if your school has a unit. Just by seeing them wearing their uniforms each week, but also because we open every school ceremony with a Color Guard. If you've never seen one, you probably don't have it. But like I said, there's the possibility of joining another school's unit.

If I join another school's JROTC program, will I be required to wear my uniform to school?
