Joe2142
Ok. I have this awesome-o picture that took me an hour to sketch, my bro thinks it's really good. So I just scan it onto Adobe Photoshop or something? Then what? Do I color the picture in from there? If so how? And how do you "shade" it? No offence, but none of the guides stickied helped me, but did give me ideas, so thanks. I'm completely new to making pixel sigs so I would like all the information you have to offer. Thanks much, Joe
paul_wilson
well im a novice really at pixel but what ive found is that paint shop and photo shop are to hard to use for pixel. MS paint is crap so you have to get a program like GraphicsGale. theres probably better programs but this one has worked pritty well for me so far. with the shading you start with a base colour and using a RGB slider u graduly change the shade acording to what way you want to shade it and where the light point is. First and only pixel thinger I made.
Godslayer
Use graphics gale, he's right. Ususaly, none of the original sketch goes into my sigs, I use layers and trace over the important line of the sketch, it' easier that way.
The_Jeppoz
I still think that Pixels should be born on a digital media only... No sketches and stuff like that...Infedels !
Quer_Skulll
some of the professional pixel artists sketch first why shouldnt we?
The_Jeppoz
Then you simply don't create a pixel, but adapt a drawing to pixel tecnique. Just my 2 cents.
Quer_Skulll
you pixel over a drawing thus creating a pixel, everthing is still made pixel by pixel. just my 3p :P
Lordliquid
I guess it's allright, but I don't use sketches myself. I just start pixelling right in program itself :) "Do you really know me? I might be a God."
Godslayer
I know it helps me to sketc it out first, because I'm left handed, with a right handed mouse. So, I have some trouble sketching stuff out with the mouse, I can only really do pixel by pixel with it.
paul_wilson
i make it from scratch in the program... but i suck so :P First and only pixel thinger I made.
terley
I don't understand why people use photoshop and paintshop pro to make pixel sigs, you dont need any of those tools.. Paint maybe crap but not for pixel sigs, its like using a helecopter to cross a river when theres a perfectly good bridge.. theres no point! I wouldn't encourage people to use a more advanced program to draw a simple pixel picture cus the result won't be any better, 80% of my mates don't know how to use photoshop or paintshop pro, not because they can't learn, just cus theres not real reason for them to use em.. Unless your going into a job that requires that skill in the future, the only reason I know how to use most programs is because Im hoping of becoming an cartoonist/animator. Myadvice would be to use paint if your new, but if your talented try use graphics gale, ive not used it but Ive heard its quite good.. Stay away from the more advanced programs for when it comes to pixel sigs unless you know exactly what your doing. Jeppoz, most people on the forum new to pixeling would find it hard to simply draw straight onto paint, you get people using tools and ending up with square heads and blocky characters. I'd advice people to at least plan out on paper first, or do what I've noticed Godslayer to do, sketch on paint before hand and draw detail on top of the sketch (tends to be a simple wire structure to get the proportions correct). The idea is to simplify it as much as possible for yourself until your happy with what your doing, don't make it hard, stick to paint or graphics gale and use sketches as references. This is how you should build characters in pixels. Copyrighted by GS  P.S, I personally don't scan pictures in, only use reference pics from other sigs and my own sketches. Godslayer
Though I didn't quite get the proportions correct on that one, I needed more leg space to practice pants
