Keyboard only works on front USB port?

Anyways, onto the point. My USB keyboard (A Micro Inventions KB565BL) will only work on my front USB port, but not any of my back ones. My front port is actually connected through a flash memory (SM/XD/SD/ect) device, so it isn't directly on the motherboard at all.

The USB ports in the back are not broken. I use a USB mouse as well (Logitech MX518) without any problems in any of the 4 USB ports, and likewise I can use other USB devices (Xbox 360 wireless controller adapter) just fine.

I don't think it is a driver issue, although I could be wrong. Problem is I've tried downloading the latest driver on their website, and upon installing it has an error and doesn't do anything.

It isn't any kind of malware or spyware effecting the machine either. Also when I used my roomates keyboard (A generic dell USB ) it worked just fine in the back USB ports.

Now this isn't an urgent matter by any means, but it'd be nice to reserve my front USB port for things such as flash drives so I don't have to reach around to the back every time. Plus, the wire gets annoying. So, any ideas? Or should I just ditch it and go get another keyboard. :)

that keyboard is ridiculously similar to mine, i have a MI: KB1045LSR. mines wireless, i assume yours is not cause you said the wire was annoying. i am pretty sure that i had the same problem with this keyboard, so mine is currently plugged in the front. i'd test it to try and get a positive or negative, but i've only got 2 usb in the back, one is speaker power the other is external hard drive.

just to reiterate though, i believe i tried it in back at first, did it didn't work, but i can't remember for sure.

NEED MORE SPECS TO BE POSITIVE.

Could it maybe be the USB ports have gone out in the back?

Nadril, I've read all the above posts... However, I'm curious... Have you tried attaching a USB hub to the ports on the back of your computer, and then attaching the keyboard through that? Call me crazy, but I think the PC is recognizing the keyboard way differently based on where it is connected. :-k

Also, some motherboards have an option in BIOS to enable USB keyboard support. This would generally only effect the onboard USB so this could possibly one thing to look for. Unlikely though as generally Windows would pick up the keyboard after boot.

Can you use other devices on the USB ports such as Pen Drives etc?

One more thing: Open device manager, then plug the keyboard into the USB at the back, see if it detects anything and if it errors. If it does error, remove the device from device manager, unplug the keyboard and try again.

Got it working now. After going into the Device manager I noticed that the driver was corrupt, so I uninstalled it and restarted.

Simpler fix than I thought. Thanks for all the help. :)

I have just one last question... Any idea what might have caused the driver to become corrupted? :-s
