Any quick computer speed ups?

Featured Replies

I've been noticing my comp has been chugging around a little lately and was wondering if there were any little tweaks or speedups that I might have missed :S

I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.

hjt, ad aware, spybot.

if they're all good -> run less processes / do less stuff at the same time

or you could just OC everything or get new hardware :run:

Check for and remove spyware/malware.

Remove pointless proccesses/services that Windows runs.

If you're running an AMD64, use a memory divider and increase your FSB. Read up on this before trying though.

Remove programs from startup that you do not use.

Defragment, it makes a ton of difference.

make more room in the harddisc

remove unused programs and so on

That doesn't speed anything up, it just saves you space. ;)

True true, but it deserves to be said again. Most people defragment once or twice per year at most, if at all. If you add up the total extra time needed for various tasks due to this all over the world and calculate the power useage for that time extra time which the computers will need to be on I bet we could close a nuclear power plant :P

Okay, maybe not. Still, the effect fragmentation has on transfer and search rates is enormous and that can't be said too many times.

you oculd always try some of blackvipers windows 2000 and XP tweaks.

Also disable anything on startup that is unneeded, I.E. MSN, AIM, all the junk that hogs RAM when you start up, making it take alto longer

Link doesn't work, Zonda. Says domain has been registered, that's it.

Well as the other people said defragmenting and adding memory are the best ways to speed up your comp. Although you could also delete your old and I mean old work.

Did anyone mention any of the Windows XP Power Toys?

You might be able to use a few of them to tweak windows a tad for a bit more speed.
