I know I'm bound to get one eventually, but if they're weak to magic or something, of course I'll bolt them. I have tried meelee and mage on them, I found meelee to be far better. It might actually depend on your mage level as well, because I splashed quite a bit with fire strike on my pure. I havent tried range but mage was a real pain.
