Strength Vs Attack

I was recently training on mossies when a pure came in (68 str, 30 atk). I was training defence and he was probably training strength. I have slightly higher str than him and over double his attack, but why is that he was still hitting such high and consistent hits? He was just as often getting the drop as I was.

Was it more because I was in def training mode which made me hit lower, or maybe is it that attack really just is useless on F2P?

The difference between the three modes is the about +3 or so bonus each gives to attack/str/defense. So that wouldn't have made too much of a difference.

He just got lucky.

I personally got 99 strength first, and it made 99 attack almost effortless due to the speed advantage of the higher hits. When you are training you generally train on a monster with low defence, so the benefits of attack aren't often seen on such monsters. However, when you are training slayer and get a task such as steel dragons, you will definitely notice the benefit of a higher attack level.

If I was to do it all again, I would use my same method. This method was having strength +5 levels over attack. I stuck to this method until about 80 attack, in which I just went straight to 99 with strength. If I was to make an account more-so for pking than 99 stats, I would simply get 90 in both rather than 90 in one and 99 in the other. It is less than half of the xp/time put in, and there is not a big difference between 90 and 99 in a stat aside from the skill cape and recognition.

As for your thoughts on your training style depleting the damage you caused per turn it is true, but unless the other character had better bonuses than you, I find it hard to believe that being double his attack and higher strength that he would get kills faster. Although, you were both training on moss giants, which have almost no defence, so as I said earlier, the benefits of a higher attack level would generally not be seen. If you were to both go train on a monster with higher defence, you would definitely get kills faster. I believe the difference between damage given on the attack styles is +1 damage for the aggressive style. I am unsure how the others compare.

Since gear and set ups affect your str bonus the most and max hit (str level is a factor but not to big) you can hit very hit and accurate training attack, then more accurate on str after making it faster

Well later on, there was another guy with higher stats. 50 attack, 75 strength. It was annoying as hell. He was pretty much beating me out on drops 3:1. We used the same weapons, but he had a str ammy over my power ammy.

Honestly, I'm thinking of just raising str now.

But one more thing. With most str pures at 40 attack, what would be a strong enough defence to lower the number of hits to offset the effects of their massive strength?

I'm trying to formulate a secondary character to become an "Anti-pure" if that's possible.

Well, having higher defence than their attack leel is where it gets noticable, so 41 def. As for being outcompeted, it won't have been attack style: just equipment, pots, prayer, and luck (also if you were taking the damage and having to eat, theres some attack turns missed). I don't know quite what you mean by "anti pure", there's tank accs that have very high defence and (usually) ranged, but as far as i know theyre only realyl effective in members, and at high levels.

Imo you should get str nice and high early on regardless of being a pure or not. It's just, a good game plan.

Well, my original goal was a demented range tank with

70 attack

71 str

90 def

92 Mage

94 Ranged

70 Pray

89-90ish HP

So I could BH in the med crater.

But seeing as BH is dying off and str seems to be so important, I think I'll revise my stats to 85 str, 85 def which will probably lower my HP to about 88 ish.
