The quest guide states that I need to equip a Mirror Shield, which requires 20 Defense.

 

 

 

Is this a necessity or is it possible to complete quest without?

You could do it with 1 defence, but it would take a very long time.

 

Without the mirror shield your stats drop by a lot making it harder to hit/kill the monsters. And the drops aren't common neither.

 

 

 

IMO its possible, but definitely not worth the hassle.

I assume your hunting basilisks, in which case you can just find a safespot and kill it easily. If you can't find a safespot you can always entangle and mage/range the basilisks, just don't let it touch you.

Its not exactly free as it takes a much longer time to get the bones then it does to make the cash, buy d bones and use a gilded altar.

Perhaps, well none-the-less, it's free.

 

 

 

And I'm trying to do every quest that in no way needs a defense requirement or gives defense exp.

I have seen people try to range them but apperantly u will get ur stats drained still so i dont think its worth it
