4xp/hit?

I've noticed I made many posts since I turned p2p again, but forget it, this deserves a topic.

I read the guide a couple of times since I started RS, and it was pretty useful to me. When I camped a monster, I usually just counted the time I was there and assumed how many I could kill in that time, and it gave me the approximate experience I would yield. However, A long, long time ago (maybe sometime during the summer, before the olympics), I was ranging red dragons to make up for a loss in the Chaos Tunnels, and I noticed while I was eyeing my xp, I wasn't getting 4xp a hit, it was actually more. I just thought it was range, and then passed it off.

Now today, I'm doing a steel dragon task, and once again I'm eyeballing my xp. I was at an odd number thanks to controlled mode last time, and the numbers are jumping between odd and even. I noticed one of my hits - 15 - yielded 63 xp instead of the 60.

If you look at the stats menu in the game, you will see that melee combat includes your Attack, Strength, Defence and Hits skills. When you fight with weapons, you can choose your attack style, which will determine which of your combat levels receive the xp you gain from fighting. If your attack style is Accurate, Aggressive or Defensive - then the majority of your xp will go to your Attack, Strength and Defence skills respectively. This is called 'focused' training. Alternatively you can choose a 'controlled' style where you receive equal xp between all three combat skills. Your hits always receives xp in any style.

Focused training gives (4*damage inflicted) xp to that one skill and (1.33*damage inflicted) xp to your hits level.

Controlled training gives (1.33*damage inflicted) xp to each of the four skills.

Any ideas why?

Not all monsters give 4, especially boss monsters tend to give more (and rightly so). As i'm sure you know some give less, random and quest stuff etc usually.

If you're only talking a slight amount, such as 1 xp more(total) than you should be getting then it's just rounding.

I didn't realise it happened on dragons, but i'm assuming it's that.

Was it Jagex that said it was 4xp / hit? If not it could be a lot more complicated than that.

All DFS threads turn into efficiency flame wars >.>

>OP asks "why use DFS?"

>everyone says "there is no reason"

>someone says "stop bashing people who use DFS, efficiency troll ass clown"

>thread is now a flame fest
