Nadril
Full Version Compressed Version Anyways, These past few days i've been getting back into the swing of things. The bigest part was getting back into the way of doing surface maps, which I think that over my period of abstance from Terragen, I have gotten better at the surface maps. (The surface in this is a WIP, but thought it was well enough to do for a full peice, or WIP of one) Well, After puttering around in terragen for a bit, I got this. Going for a slightly more realistic aproach than some of my other pieces, and just so you know, you should expect a (BIG) wallpaper of this to be released soon. Just felt like showing everyone I am up to soething.

I might tweak the atmosphere a tad still, but it will also look better when in a wallie version :)
axeraider70
shouldnt the dark clouds be casting the shadow and not the sun? axeraider70.deviantART.com
venomai
shouldnt the dark clouds be casting the shadow and not the sun? Huh? I don't see any sun cast shadows... The terrain looks a little untextured once it gets to the top (hope you finish it in the final), and the massive shadow is a little overwhelming. Otherwise, I think it looks great for a start. I hope you finish this one!

Either way, i can fix it fairly easy. The texture gets plain near the top because generaly grass doesn't exist on that steep of a slope, so instead its just rock. I'll make the "rock" part of it more interesting to look at though. And also, it will look much better when its a wallpaper. Mostly because the image wasn't realy ment for sig dimensions. Also, its going to have a much higher quality (going to render 3200x2400 ) so it will look nice :) Thanks for the comments guys. I definitly like terragen better than vue

Zarel
I think it's near perfect; the only problem is that the shadow is all in one big blob. The shadow should look something like Photoshop's Render Clouds thingy.
venomai
what else are shadows cast by? a lamp sitting on top of the mountin? :? There isn't a cast shadow of the sun, because it is the main light source. So basically, the sun doesn't cast shadows, rather it casts light on objects that cast shadows. The lamp ontop of the mountain, though, since its an object, could very well be casting shadows. And keep in mind, it too can cast light on other objects! So yea, basically what you stated in your first post was "the sun shouldn't be casting shadows". Since it was a little confusing, I read it as "there should be no cast shadow of a sun in the image" and responded based on that. And as you can imagine, your new reply has just gotten me more confused. PS: I'm not sure if I've got my terminology down, this whole subject on cast shadows is really difficult to follow!! ;)
Tynnhammar
Hello Nadril! I'm pretty sure you don't remember me, however, I do remember you. I can see since last time, you have envolved and developed yourself a lot. Nice work ;). However, I think more people should start webdesign instead, as it owns sigmaking any day. The_Jeppoz
Very nice stuff we got here. I think you could easily work on the rocky part of the mountains in photoshop with some texturing stuff, so nothing to worry about. The angle is great imo. The terrain shap is a classic but works good. Only thing i don't like is the mountains in the far end of the valley. They should be very out of focus imo. This way the horizon seems a bit restricted if you get what i mean. Shading in the valley is very nice but i agree with those saying the part of the sky you can see clashes with it. Nothing you can't fix anyway :) Good job.

Of course i remember you! hey man 8) Thanks. Thanks Jeppoz. Yeah i could probaly photoshop the top there a tad. Anyways, I fixed the shadow (turned the shadow lightness up for the atmosphere, duh!) so its going to be a lot better. I started to render the 3200x2400 but i guess something quit it out last night so it didn't finish :(
monkey_933
PMG NAD DO YOU REMEMBER ME??? Lol jk.
