So... not sure where to start. It's for non-gaming but still needs the capacity to do a lot of video editing/rendering and 3D work also. Last time I looked around the macbook air just came out and I was going to grab one of them; but now I dunno what to go for :-\ Any suggestions?

I think mac sounds like the thing for what you are tring to do. I personally would never use a mac but if you like them i would go for one of those and there quality is good. Did you have a price range?

I've heard the macbook air is terrible, but a macbook or macbook pro sounds like what you are looking for.

I'd almost say that I have no price limit but that's no excuse to go nuts. I like value for money, even when looking for a laptop.

 

 

 

 

 

Yea, I heard the macbook air is so-so nowdays, and I believe when it was released it was still behind one other which had been out for a couple of months already. Still, I'll poke around more see if I turn up anything. Keep any feed back coming tho, specially if you have a laptop or are a video editing/3d person.

MacBook Pro is what your looking for if your going with Apple. I easily run the new adobe suite on my macbook pro with no problems and I got mine last summer. They hold their value for a long time and most people hardly ever have any problems with them.

For your needs, with no particular budget a 15 inch macbook pro would be an excellent pick. If you prefer Windows just dual boot Vista (as I do). The hardware is very good, and since your budget is not particularly tight, its worth spending the extra ~150$ over a comparable PC for the better build quality.

Go with a MacBook, especially if you're doing editing and stuff, just make sure your software is compatible! If that doesn't work, you can always run Vista on it.

Yea... Camtasia is the only program I really have to watch out for but it should be sweet.

Do you really need to do video editing and 3d work on the move?

 

If your planning on doing it in a set location like your office and then taking it elsewhere just to read emails and do a bit of work with office. Then I would get a desktop for the office and a netbook or cheap laptop for the portability, as it will work out a lot cheaper and you can always upgrade a desktop.

 

Otherwise I have not idea on CAD laptops.

It's not about doing it on the move, it's more having the ability to do my job away from home, for extended periods of time, without having to rely on internet cafes and my available gotomypc machines being online OR taking my entire desktop setup with me. The desktop machine is already decked out for the purpose of video work (could go for an upgrade itself actually but doesn't change the situation that I'm restricted to my home machine if I don't want any issues with rendered videos).

 

 

 

 

 

Edit: Took a look at the macbook pro.... I think I'm going to have to take a step back with the AU prices that are listed for it :(

Then....a regular MacBook? :P

I'm amused at the cost of customization :lol: I'll figure something out eventually.
