Ever since "Pending.be" went down, I have been looking for a good site that hosts BBCode Countdown Timers.

 

 

 

Does anyone know of any good countdown timers?

 

 

 

(I would prefer if downloading a program wasnt necessary)

So you're basically looking for some HTML/JavaScript to put into a phpBB based forum's custom BBcode system?

It should be quite simple, just do it with JavaScript. I don't know JS very well though. :P Basically make a timed loop that takes one away from the number of seconds left (Which would be calculated when the page loads) every second, and then formats the time using the number of seconds.

Wouldn't the countdown timer have to be some kind of Mod/Add-on that the admins of this site, added to phpBB?

 

Else I don't see how you could use the custom BBcode to create a text based countdown?

 

 

 

I can think of a method of creating this using images though, based on the rotating signature script I've used before.

 

 

 

The basic make up of that would be as follows:

 

 

 

- Grab a host that allows .php

 

- Upload small images of the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 (Naming each one respectively)

 

- Write the script in .php, basically based around what you want the countdown to do. Make variables that would change the image based on realtime.

 

- Paste the .php link as in the BB code on the forum

 

 

 

While in theory that could work, it's going to be highly impractical, and messy to work with - and to see any change you would actually need to keep refreshing the page :P

Pending.be was a site for dynamically generating images with a countdown in them. It'd say something like "2 days, 10 hours, 5 minutes, and 56 seconds until [event]" and it'd give you the image code to use it.

 

 

 

Random googling hasn't turned up anything, though. They're all either flash, or will only count days, not hours/minutes/seconds. :?

If that site goes down (unlikely, I know), I think you best alternative would be javascript. I've got a friend who's rather good at it, so I may try and get him to register here.

I pretty sure you can create this by modifying the replacement code in phpbb bbcode table.

 

I'm looking into how it actually works, but I'm pretty sure its possible.
