i currently want 70 mining and smithing to make addy bars (im f2p)

65 mining and 61 smithing

is mining and dropping 8k iron in the hobgoblin mine on a pvp world a quick method (im at the 4 rock formation)

its like this

XXXX

XX--

X--X

for smithing-would superheating 14k mithril bars be worth it about 1mil loss but i would get a ton of mage xp

best way to achieve smithing quickly:

Set mtk up to get you coal

Go to an iron mine, I like legends due to the rock triangle setup and near to legends bank)

Power mine the iron but BANK it

Then smelt/superheat the iron and coal into steel

Make steel plates

Alch the steel plates when you can

Revel in the fact you've had fairly past mine and smith xp and made a huge profit.

hes f2p.

best way to train smithing effectively in f2p is mithril bars like he plans.

Best way to powermine iron might have to be rimmington on a maxed server, as wildy revs will slow you down enough to not make it worth it imo. Unless you go on a pvp server with just your rune pick but it will still have slow spawns making them about even (2 rock vs 3 rock)

ah i totally missed the f2p part.

From personal taste to do mining + smith combined in f2p lumby swmaps = ftw

You mine the mith and the coal and end up with an inventory tht will make 5(?) bars

Then ocne u made alot u got smelt/superheat them

Probably because it's crap xp all round.

to the op: that sounds great. Bout as fast and cheap as it gets in f2p! Plus you get some fairly awesome mage xp (it's slow smith xp, but good mage xp, so it works out being great for 3 skills instead of 2).

for the mining i usually go on a server where once i mine the four ores the first one has respawned

Want mage, smithing, and mining XP? And fast? On f2p? Go to the dwarven mine on a full world. Go to the 2 iron rocks near the anvil there. Bring lots of nats, a hammer, your pick, and wield a fire staff. Mine the 2 iron, superheat 1 or both while waiting for the respawn. When you have 25 bars superheated, go smith plates on the anvil. Then, alch the plates.

It costs money, but the overall XP gain is incredibly fast for f2p, although spread among 3 skills.

at a 1k loss i might as well just buy mithril bar materials and just smith and alch chain bodys...

If you did that, you would spend 2850 on the materials for the bars, another 920 on the nature runes, and recover 1,170 by alching. Your loss per chainbody would be around 2.6k. 2.6k for a total of 240 smithing XP and 224 magic XP. That is a cost of 5.6 coins per experience point. The method I have explained yields 175 mining XP, 187.5 smithing XP, and 330 magic XP per platebody made. Your cost is 6 nats, 1380, minus the 336 coins you get by alching, for a loss of 1,024 coins for a total of 692.5 total XP, or a cost of 1.48 coins per experience point. Even if you remove the mining XP from that equation, you end up with a cost of 1.98 coins per experience point.

So no, you would not do just as well by making chainbodies. You would actually do far, far worse :)

so i can simply justify this by mining numerous iron which is what i will do anyways...

Think about it this way - it's about as much clicking as mining and dropping the iron, only you are training magic and smithing with it instead of just throwing it away. And training those skills as quickly as is possible on f2p, and at a minimal cost.

I mean, there are faster ways to train magic and smithing as an f2p player, but they are generally much, much more expensive.

i think i might try that for 100 plates just to get a random xp amount btw is it even effective to go all the way through the dwarven mines for the anvil or would banking the iron, then superheating in varrock beside the east bank and anvil make more sense?

edit-on second thought the amount of money lost from making 2k plates is a bit more than anticipated...

The reason it is so much faster than mining and banking is because the 2 iron rocks are about 1 click away from the anvil. Once you get to the 2 iron rocks, you don't move much, even going back and forth from the anvil. The banks in varrock are 4-5 clicks away from the iron rocks, so mining and banking would waste a lot of time. The anvil in the dwarven mines is just a little bit farther away from the 2 iron rocks than the anvil in west Varrock is from the bank. So you cut out the whole time that banking would take.

If you don't want to spend the money to do this, then it's not a bad idea to buy some mith ore, and go superheat mithril bars in the mining guild. You won't be able to smith the bars for profit until you can make mith plates, but you'll get good mining experience this way.

i just got xp/h rates and its junk...

18k mining xp per hour

34k mage xp per hour

and only about 20k smith xp

the total loss for 1h of this method is around

100k per hour

OR

powermine for 1h gives 30-35k xp

superheat mith bars gives 27-30k smithing xp/h

and 45k mage xp/h

with only a 90k loss...

I'm not sure I'd say it's junk. Using the numbers you gave, 1 hour of superheating and an hour of powermining gives you a total of about 30k mining and 72k mage + smithing, or a total XP gain of 102k XP. 2 hours of the iron method give you 40k smithing, 36k mining, and 68k mage XP, for a total XP gain of 144k XP - MORE than you would gain by training mining and mage/smithing seperately. And you only lost 10k more coins per hour in the process. I think it seems like a worse method because there are faster ways to do each skill - but because you are doing all 3 skills at once, and spending almost all of your time actually training because of the minimal running around time, AND actually smithing bars into plates which is always much, much faster XP than smelting or superheating, you end up coming out ahead.

when am i running around? i move 1 square over to drop ores and mine the next rock and move none while superheating...the only time i do run is when im doing the second method...

btw the extra 40k xp costs me 100k+

imo not worth it

Right, but the time you spend dropping your ore while powermining, for example, is time you spend with the iron method superheating. There is less wasted time, and the time you spend running to the anvil from the iron rocks is more than made up for by the fact that you are smithing iron plates. You also spend time banking while superheating mith, while you don't bank at all using the iron method.

It is an incontrovertible fact that the iron method is faster XP overall for those 3 skills than training them seperately, and at only a slightly increased cost - although mithril bars seem to currently be going up in price, so that could be worth taking advantage of temporarily if you want to save some cash in your training.
