January 4, 200917 yr You should nkow why im suggesting this.. :| *points at sig* Instead of trying to enforce a rule which is a bother to everyone, why not just literally restrict the actual size of a signature, instead of telling people not to let it get big..? I dont need a siggy no moar.
January 4, 200917 yr Because we don't need to. If you can't follow basic rules, you shouldn't be using this forum. We tell you exactly how to check file sizes and dimenions, if you get your signature removed it's nobodys fault but your own.
January 4, 200917 yr Because as you don't use one single image which is uploaded to the tip.it servers it's impossible (Or far too much hassle at least) for us to be able to check the size. It's always been this way and always will be, it's not hard to check the size of the image yourself.
January 4, 200917 yr If you have doubt about the size of your signature and whether or not it coincides with the rules, take a screenshot of it and check the dimensions. I've done that a lot as a moderator when checking to see if a signature is within the limits :) It works well. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
January 4, 200917 yr I've got a black rectangle saved just 1 pixel over the max Tip.It dimensions in each direction. I just paste the new image over it, and if I can't see black, then I don't put it in my sig. Simple : Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3
January 4, 200917 yr I find math is also a good option for checking it none of this fancy black box or screen shot methods

January 5, 200917 yr Author  'We dont need to' Didnt need to have a restriction either now do we? :o :P I had 3 images so read before you post plz.. 2 of which were tip.it goal sigs, so i didnt make them and i couldnt measure. And, how does someone like me measure it roughly? I dont have anything to measure it with. EDIT: And when I said an actual restriction instead of a huge 3MB picture 2 mods sent to me through pm (with dialup = #-o ), I meant some systemlike thing that says 'Your signature is too big'. I dont see how that is more of a hassle than telling people their sig is too big, putting a picture into your PM, posting it and basically debating the whole thing I dont need a siggy no moar.
January 5, 200917 yr You can still measure image sizes even if you're not the one who created the image. At least how I do it is open the image in its own window and in the window title it says something like: As an example, I just opened my signature up in its own window and it says: 20889293rx9.jpg 375x125 pixels If you have a PC, I think there's another way to do it involving right clicking on the picture and selecting "View Properties" or something, but I'm not sure, as I have a Mac. And I may be mistaken, but if I remember correctly, when we first switched to phpBB3, we had a feature like the one you're suggesting. But because people tend to fill up their signatures with MULTIPLE images and text, instead of just one image, it didn't work. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

Or at least, in later versions it does, I know I've seen it happen on my own forum. I think personally that checking signatures is a waste of mod's time. I wouldn't mind seeing some automatic system being put in place like we had on phpBB2, but that's just another mod to debug and update. On the other hand, though, I don't see what's so difficult about checking the file size/dimensions yourself. Right click on the image -> properties also works good for checking.

January 6, 200917 yr Avatars on the old forums were checked as you had to upload them to tip.it itself. Signatures have always been like they are now.
January 6, 200917 yr That's strange, I seem to remember that signature sizes were parsed by the old system. It was so strict, it kept on telling me that "Your submitted signature is too big, the submitted size was 30.02kb and the maximum is 30kb." Avatars on the old forums were checked as you had to upload them to tip.it itself. Signatures have always been like they are now. If you want to be picky, you didn't actually have to upload them to Tip.it, you could also link to off-site too.

Well I think that file size has always been checked, but the dimensions never have been and that's where most of the rule-breaking comes from. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
January 6, 200917 yr I'm not entire sure about the rule on quotes in signitures? A kind admin asked me to place a quote in my signiture under hide tags, but I havent read anything official as she said there was no current stance at the time. Has this changed? Is there a rule on quotes in signitures now?

The only way you could even restrict it logically, would be to base it on file size (Kb's) but that wouldn't aid in the pixel size of the signature. It's a touchy situation really. Besides most browsers allow you check the dimensions and size of an image with a click of the mouse. It isn't that hard to do. Is there a rule on quotes in signitures now? I remember some mod posting that putting anything in hide tags would not make the signature under the rules if it was larger to begin with. And Shazarabbit... to the siggy and avvy Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3

And Shazarabbit... to the siggy and avvy I think the rules are perfectly clear. I still remember the 8kb avy rule tho and haven't learned i got 12 more to play with lol. Rofl, George. I noticed that too when you mentioned it. File size isn't checked anymore, the only options I've found is max image dimensions and max number of images.
