Magic Training: Revisited

Crazykid1321

Recommended Posts

Around a week or so ago I posted a topic about which methods I should go about training my Magic level. I had finally settled getting the Void Mace and casting Claws of Guthix on Aviansies - but not only did this not profit, I didn't even come close to breaking even - losing nearly 1kgp per Aviansie.

I hope to at least Level 80 Magic in order to fulfill a requirement of a clan I wish to join- Espada.

My motive is still the same, I wish to level my Magic Level quite fast - while on a budget of 2m gp and having fun. (This brings High-Alchemy out of the equation - for now.)

Magic Level - 78, going for Level 80, 85, or 90.

Right now I question the methods and the efficiency of:

-Casting Claws of Guthix on Dagg Kings. (How much xp/hour, how much cash/hour/equipment?)

-Stringing Gold Amulets. (How much xp/hour, costs, which Amulets?)

-Enchanting Diamond Bolts. (How much xp/hour, how much does it profit, if any?)

My last resorts (if the above prove to fail.)

-A special method of High-Alchemy.

-Doing The Mage Training Arena.

-Humidify.

Listing methods that I have not listed would be met with much thanks!

Thank you for advance

-Crazee.

Never use the arena spells before 80 magic(charge) it's just wasteful.

Also, you need 80 already to string amulets via magic.

I used the arena spells with charge via Magic Potions while I was at Aviansies.

I should have noted that I would only string amulets after 80 magic and would only use it if I continue to lvl 85 Magic, and etc.

Ah ok, go kick whoever told you to claw aviansies, by the way. Stringing is great after 80 and I'm doing that right now. Make sure you do the miniquest after summer's end so you can elimenate the cost of amulets if you do this. Prior to level 80...I just killed random things pretty much I think...try dart at barrows?

Dart at aviansies.

Also, isn't dart pretty weak? Fire Wave can hit more and it's only a bit more gp than Slayer Dart.

I still need need the experience rates.

Is it its accuracy? Looking at both their max hits and their costs, Fire Wave seems more efficient.

Alching, 70k per hour (vs. 30-40k waving at avansies) w/ 30-50k loss (roughly what most methods will give, but with less XP). It's simply the best method for 80- mage. Do it in a PVP world and you'll average a significant profit.

I'm guessing I have to be at a PvP world at a hotspot and pk anyone who comes near me, right? Or will I do the PvP trick with a friend? I wouldn't resort to Alchemy just yet, as you see, I believe I have a method to increase my magic xp while alching. But remember that I find it boring - it is a last resort as of now.

I believe that there was a guide in the general guides section showing a way to alch that only looses 27k per 1k alchs. I would definitely check that guide out. I'm pretty sure the only requirement was Lost City which isn't a big deal.

That guide saved 13k per hour at a cost of almost 200 alchs, making it much slower and more costly for anyone who can earn 90k+ an hour.

Wow, I've never seen a person that calculates efficiency in RuneScape since Kent.

Sirhemen told me of a fairly new method that increases my xp/hour while using High-Alchemy.

But remember that High-Alchemy is my final resort!

Thanks for the help so far!

I'm sure that his mage XP increase is fairly widely known, but it's still the best training method :P

It's not. Shut up please.

Id say you get 80 in whichever way you decide. Then do dks with claws of guthix. Once you are there it is 40-50k mage xp an hour. Profit depends on luck.

Else you could try diamon bolt enchanting. When I did it I could profit, but I think that haschanged. It's really intense too if you wanna get decent rates. Upside is you can use it at pc.

Also, what is this "alching trick"?

Hard to say an exact date, but easy to figure out: Buy your bolts when they are low, or buy for under med. Might need some patience. Enchant, and keep till they are high (if you can afford to keep several thousand of them). (good time to sell would be like 2 days ago :-)).

EDIT: ffs! Good time would be to sell NOW. And I just sold 260k of these babies at "only" 535 each 2 dags ago :( :( :(.

On the other hand, membership ran out, so I wouldnt be able to sell em atm.

A long neglected spell, superheat kicks the crap out of high alch. You lose less money and the XP per hour is higher. One thing that always amazes me is why more people don't grab a stopwatch and time things more often. There are no items out of the GE that can be purchased and cost less gp per mage xp than the cost of superheating iron. On top of that you are also gaining some serious smithing xp.

Superheating Iron Ore.

Over a 10 minute period.

Xp gain: 13,515

Casted: 255 times

Cost of materials: 84,915 (all at market price. iron ore 101gp, Nature rune 232gp)

Item Vaue:62,985

Total Loss: 21,930gp

High Alchemy

Over a 10 minute time period.

Xp gain: 10,790

Cast:166 times

Cost of Materials:151,784

End Value: 127,488

Total Loss: 24,296

It is not accurate it is too low. Superheating is easily over 90K xp/hr, maxing at about 97K. You get decent smithing xp as well. Many maxed players train their magic/smithing by superheating gold ores, and it is not hard to see why.

Making planks is about 160K xp/hr, and if you factor in covering the costs with 91+ RC you get 100K+ xp/hr without loss.

I am not sure what your alchemy trick is, but if you intersperse alching with stunning you get around 140K xp/hr.

Wow, this seems great. How much would the magic and smithing xp be while superheating Mithril Bars?

Superheating mithril bars wouldn't be nearly as effective, seeing as you need quite a lot of coal and so will have to bank much more frequently. Superheating is most efficient with iron, silver and gold as they do not need any coal and so allow you to heat 27 times per inventory. I imagine you could get around 60K magic and 33K smithing xp per hour though.
