Graphics and driver trouble

pennywise

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I'm trying to install my new graphics card and everything, and I put the card into the PCie (at least i'm pretty sure it's a PCIe slot...) slot, and as soon as I turn my computer on it starts to BEEP very loudly. So I turn the computer off, take out the card, and turn it back on. No beeping.

So after that I disable the graphics card driver, put it back in, and it still beeps. So i take it out again and this time i uninstall the driver and now nothing will show up on my monitor. Basicaly whenever the new card is in the slot it beeps, and now I can't even see anything on my PC so i'm using a laptop(vista sux). Does my motherboard not support the new card, or what? I'm not really sure what to do here.

The black one is the PCI-E slot, the white ones are PCI. Note the position of the divisions in the slots.

If it is the wrong type then your mother board will probably beep to warn you, although there might be another reason.

Also, did you uninstall your previous graphics drivers before you inserted the graphics card?

What model is your graphics card?

What motherboard do you have?

Is the old GFX dedicated on the motherboard?

I remember hearing some people having problems if the GFX was integrated on the MB before.

If he's getting beep codes, the drivers are irrelevant. Beeps are generated by the BIOS before the OS even boots.

The codes are different depending on the BIOS manufacturer.

Likely the card is either bad out of the box or inserted in the wrong type of slot.

Here's a page showing beep codes for several different BIOS manufacturers.

When I had a beep like that once, was just the RAM that needed cleaning. Get an eraser, and pass it on the connections to clean your RAM bars. Only thing is it can mean something else than it did on my computer.
