The extra time that you spend using the ectofungus instead of an altar could easilly be spent gaining back the 15% higher cost of the guilded altar, It's something like if you can make more than 80k an hour guilded altar is better. As everyone said : ecto if you alck bones/cash, POH altar for speed. But nowadays, dragons have become fast to kill so POH is better imho. Marrentil is easy to gather, you can also farm some.
