This game has completely sucked me in. In my humble opinion, no other video game out today has been able to give such a deep and involving atmosphere!

The Genre is First Person Shooter, but it's so much more then that! It has a huge RPG side to it, and definitely a lot of pant-wetting terrifying moments (especially later on in the game). Story line is not that crazy itself, but the concept and the feel to the game deserves a definite 10/10. The only game that comes this close to that, is Half-Life 2.

I'm not too good with words, but if there one word I could use for this game it is: Satisfying. You see I've been playing toy games (Halo, Call of Duty and other crap) for years now, but with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. you feel like you are in the game itself! This game feels raw, scary and real. Once you step in the zone, nothing else matter around ye. Fighting system is absolutely great. Here's one thing that other FPS's very very often forget: strategy.

Anyways I have to go to sleep right now, but be sure to look up more about STALKER and buy yourself a copy (usually 15$, but it was 5$ on steam the other week). Ill edit this in the morning.

Here's a video that pretty much describe S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -

This game is definately one of the best FPS's out and one of the most challenging. Picked this up for $20NZD (~$10US) in a store and its definitely a good purchase.

You know, I've never really paid much attention to STALKER. I really should pick it up and play it, I've heard nothing but good things. Maybe next time steam runs a sale I'll pick it up.

I have Clear Sky but I didn't really like it a great deal. I may try it again though when I get my new pc, my current one can't do the graphics justice.

"In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

Great games. I have both, never got around to beating the first but I'm about 15-20 hours into #2 and it's awesome. Exploring the Zone is truly enjoyable, with side quests and pockets of loot hidden throughout. One of the things I like the most, though, is that action is never too far away. When assigned a mission, you really only have to run for up to a minute before reaching the destination. You are also rewarded for exploring with new guns, ammo, medkits, and artifacts (which, when equipped, give you special abilities such as resistance to radiation). Day/night cycle also works well, and night is downright creepy once you run into bigger mutants.

The last thing is that it's actually a challenging game series. You're never really spoon fed anything, as you have to slowly build up your gear/gun supply (like in Fallout 3). Traders will do their best to rip you off, as they buy your items for a tenth of the price at which they're sold at. This makes it more rewarding to go out and loot bodies to find weapons for yourself.

This is a game I've wanted to get for a long time now. Hopefully soon.

I'd say for a game that took 10 years in the making. Its pretty dissapointing.

Objectives are far between each other, the graphics are particularly advanced, no multiplayer.

With games like CoD4 and Gears of War it doesn't do much justice for the shooting genre although it seem to hold its own on the RPG side.

Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.
Sounds like Jagex to me...

Objectives aren't far between each other at all...especially compared to other games in the genre like Fallout 3. And comparing the shooting systems in this game to COD4 and GoW is like comparing ice cream to apples.

There is multiplayer, for the record.

I got steam just to buy this. Only maybe 10 or 15 minutes in, but it is great so far. I just can't figure out the knife, though, how close is close enough?

Yup. I found a backpack lying around that had a silenced pistol and a bunch of ammo in it.

Well eventually you'll start finding dead bodies with AKs or shotguns on them.

If you want to make a little bit of money, a good way to do so is by looting a bunch of dead bodies for guns and then selling them to the nearest trader/stalker. It really only becomes effective once you start finding the higher level guns though.

Alright, I'm having a problem. For some reason, I can't load. I save my game through the pause menu, and through quicksave, but when I go to "load game", there's nothing there. Quickload doesn't work, either.

All I can think of is to reinstall :/. Do you have Clear Sky or Shadow of Chernobyl?

To anyone who gets this game, there are 2 different types of mods you should download: an endurance mod, which increases your maximum weight limit, and a mod that makes the guns more accurate.

jjroxlu7.jpg

I've got Shadow. But how do I reinstall it from steam? Is there an option or something on the steam page for it or something? My control pane: add or remove programs only gives me the remove option.
