Welcome Tip.It community to Barrows-A-Thon '09! This is a week long event in which I will do nothing in-game, but continuous Barrows. In this thread I will be walking you through my methods of barrowing, giving some hints and tips, as well as having a log of every barrows run that I can manage to cram into this week! :D

[hide=First and Foremost]This is NOT meant to be a full-blown guide to Barrowing. In this blog, I will assume that you have read other guides, have some experience in the Barrows mini-game, and want to expand your mind by hearing my personal opinions about the different methods.[/hide]

The Gear:

 

 

 

I find that the most efficient equipment to use is as follows:

 

 

 

Guthan's Helm

 

Guthan's Top

 

Guthan's Bottom

 

Amulet of Fury

 

Dragon Boots - Could be switched out with Infinity Boots for a slightly higher magic bonus.

 

Slayer's Staff - Required for Slayer Dart.

 

Trimmed Skillcape (Attack)

 

Blessed Spirit Shield - While it's true the Dragonfire Shield and Sigil'd Spirit Shields have better overall stats, the Blessed Spirit Shield provides decent defense, no negative magic attack bonus, and a small prayer bonus for a relatively cheap cost.

 

Berserker Ring

 

Barrows Gloves

 

 

 

The Inventory:

 

 

 

House Teleport Runes - Could be switched for Teleport Tablets.

 

Guthan Spear - Used for healing in the tunnels.

 

Slayer Dart Runes - Used to cast Slayer Dart.

 

Karil's top and bottom - Used as defense against Ahrim's magic attacks.

 

Abyssal Whip - Used for Karil/Ahrim.

 

Dragon Dagger - Used for Karil/Ahrim.

 

Prayer Potion - Used as a last resort against Dharok in the tunnels.

 

Spade - Required to enter the mounds.

 

Lobsters - Used to heal small amounts of hp, and as ghast fodder.

 

Monkfish - Heal EXTREMELY well for their cost. I use them everywhere.[/hide]

 

 

 

[hide=Range Method]

 

 

 

Same Basic setup. Alter the inventory slightly by removing the melee weapons and adding a range potion (2nd prayer potion is optional).

 

 

 

Broad-tipped bolts can be switched with any bolts above Adamant (special effects help to hit more).

 

 

 

NOTE: This method is extremely ineffective. It may work for some, but certainly not for me.[/hide]

 

 

 

[hide=The Strategy]While fighting the brothers, I implement the Slayer Dart spell. I find that anything over -30 magic attack hits fairly well on the brothers, considering their magic defense is horrible.

 

 

The order in which I do the brothers is static, and never changes.

 

 

 

1. Dharok - Killed first to ensure that my prayer will not run out. Melee prayer and Slayer Dart work just fine on him.

 

 

 

2. Karil - Killed 2nd because I usually have enough prayer left over from Dharok to ensure a quick kill on him. Range prayer + Piety, Dragon Dagger special attacks and Whip are the plan here.

 

 

 

3. Ahrim - I often still have prayer enough to get a quick kill on him as well. Mage prayer + Piety, with Whip equipped works wonders. Also keep Karils equipped even with prayer, to help stop stat reduction.

 

 

 

4. Verac - Killed 4th to ensure I have food enough to kill him. Slayer Dart as usual.

 

 

 

5. Torag - Not much of a threat. Slayer Dart as usual.

 

 

 

6. Guthan - Might provide a bit of a prolonged fight with his healing powers. Slayer Dart as usual.

 

 

 

After killing the first 5 brothers, I enter the empty crypt with full Guthan equipped. I heal as needed on the lower leveled monsters, and make my way to the chest. Slayer Dart as usual the 6th brother. The only ones that should be any trouble are Dharok (used to be able to safe spot, but with the recent update to AI, it's not recommended. 2 doses of my Prayer potion usually suffice.) and Karil (hits with very strong, very fast range attacks.). I loot the chest and teleport to my house, where I charge my prayer and use my Kharyrll Portal to get back to Canifis.[/hide]

 

 

 

[hide=Why Guthan and Slayer Dart?]Guthan's armor allows for me to heal on the lower leveled monsters in the tunnels, thus saving me food and money.

 

 

 

Slayer Dart hits very well for the cost of the runes, as well as being very accurate regardless of magic attack bonus (anything over -30 should hit quite well).[/hide]

Oh, definitely. 3-4 Blood or Chaos runes usually negate the cost of the monkfish, and the Death and Mind runes are restocked (usually with extra) with each opening of the chest.

 

 

 

I'm counting on the runes to yield most of the profit, unless I get some pricey equipment.

Those stats would be just fine. Though, I would advise looking through other methods than what I use. Mine is based on high Defense and Prayer.

Just bought a Bandos Godsword, and am starting to use it in place of Slayer Dart. I'll be adding a guide shortly, as well as adding Death and Mind runes to the drop log.

Ahrims is easier to melee than he is to range (accurate whip/scim/etc...). Atleast in my experience, he hits me too much to waste time ranging so i just dds spec him then use whip with d'hides or whatever. Ahrim is also my last brother that i kill.

Well, I've recently altered my methods to use a Bandos Godsword instead of Slayer Dart, to increase overall profits. But I've been too lazy to write up a guide for it. :P

 

 

 

As for the spear, It's probably my 6th-ish one. I barrow a lot, I just have never written a log for it, or had a week-long event as I am now.

 

 

 

And yes, I've tried that method on multiple occasions. But I'm trying to make my trips as cost efficient as possible, not just aiming to get equipment, but runes, bolt racks, and halfkeys, as well. The runes alone bear a remarkable profit, and the prayer pots just decrease the profit margin.
