long distance trading

Tired of constantly banking? Want an extra couple of exp or gp an hour? Then you've come to the right place!

I've been thinking about this for a while now and I'm pretty sure that nobody has suggested this.

[hide=The problem]I know this happens to me way too much. I'll be training in the waterfall dungeon or somewhere far from a bank. I'll have plenty of food/bolts, but my inventory will be full of rune scimitars and fire battlestaves. What do you do when you're in this situation? You go to a bank and resume training 5-10 minutes later. This might not seem like a lot to some of you, but it definitely adds up over time.[/hide]

[hide=My solution]Add a new spell to the lunar spellbook (suggestions for a name?). You would click on the spell and be prompted with your friends list. You would choose a friend and they would get a special pm asking to trade with you. If they accept, it would be just like any other trade (except for a small fee, explained later). Not only would this be useful for training, it could be used for many things. Imagine that you're going for 99 woodcutting/fishing/mining and you have a friend going for 99 fletching/cooking/smithing. Just bring along an extra 100k and sell the wood/fish/ore to your friends. You could sell them the raw materials without leaving your training spot. They wouldn't have to wait for somebody to buy raw goods in the grand exchange.[/hide]

[hide=Getting the spell]In order to recieve the spell, you would have to complete a series of high leveled magic related tasks. In order to ever have access to the spell, you would have to complete a min-quest. The requirements for this mini-quest would be completion of dream mentor, desert treasure, 95+ magic, a special wand from the mage training arena mini game, and any other magic realted quests you can think of (This suggestion is still a work in progress!) After buying the special wand from the mage training arena (It's not availible until you have the requirements) you would get a message telling you to speak to the wise old man. He'd tell you about his travels and how he was in such remote places for extended periods of time. Your character would ask him how he was able to stay there for so long and after a long conversation he'd tell you that he had access to some special magic. You'd go through a series of events explaining how to use the spell and, voala, quest complete. (Please offer suggestion on how to improve the quest, I know it isn't that good right now)[/hide]

[hide=The spell]You would need (Please suggest required runes, I don't really use the lunar spellbook much) runes and a decent amount of money. I briefly explained before how the spell would work. You would choose the spell, choose a friend to trade with, and trade. Your friend would also have had to completed the above mini-quest. There would be a much stricter trade limit (5k an hour instead of 60k every 15 minutes) and a high level magic requirement (95+) to try to avoid abusing this spell. You would have to pay a decent amount of money every time you try to cast the spell, more or less depending on where you are, possibly several million on places with highly valued drops such as gwd or the corporeal beast (spelling?). You would have to pay a percent of what you try to trade (5-10% or more).[/hide]

This is just a suggestion. Feel free to suggest improvements. Please tell me how to improve the idea and inform me of any spelling/grammar errors. Don't just say "this is a terrible idea", try to offer suggestions to make it better. Please tell me if you find anything that would make this spell overpowered or just flawed in general.

Its a good idea, but you can't trade in a different World and imo its too complicated.

I know you can't trade in a different world, that's the point of this suggestion: to be able to trade with friends ANYWHERE.

It's really not complicated, just right click on a friend from your friends list and choose "trade with...". It would be like any other trade, except you won't have to be standing next to the person.

So how do you explain the magical disappearance of the item?

What? Nothing is disappearing. It would be exactly like trading with anybody else. The only difference is that you don't actually need to meet with them. I don't really understand your question.

Perhaps as a lunar spell at 95+ mage, but not something anyone can do.

Agreed.

Being able to trade something (Into thin air? WTF?) without any sort of spell is incredibly stupid and over powered. Can you say infinite God wars/DK trips please?

Umm, NO. Incredibly stuipd and overpowered at ANY level, unless it costs at least 5m to use it. Infinite GWD\DKS\PKing\Fight Caves plz?

Sorry, but this is one of the worst ideas I've heard in a very long time. It would completely and utterly unbalance and ruin the game.

Anyway, they already have the banking part of it. Pack yak and imp boxes do a great job, especially the yak. High requirement, but works great.

I don't see what the problem is. The normal trade limit would still apply. I guess a high magic requirement would be a good idea. Maybe it could have a stricter trade limit like 5000 every hour instead of 60k every 15 minutes. Don't just say it's a bad idea. I know it COULD work. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

How the hell does that even relate to my post? Here's the situation: I'm at Bandos. I can kill him in under 2 minutes, so with his fairly common high-value drops I would be making a massive (10m+ an hour) profit. However, that's balanced because I have to obtain 40 KC every time I run out of food (every 3 or so kills). Now, if I bring 500k cash, I can trade my friend for sharks every time I run low and camp there for hours, earning hundreds of millions at a rate of over 5 times what was previously obtained. What part of "increasing the speed GP is obtained by high level players by 500%" doesn't involve unbalancing the game?

This is still a work in progress. Instead of getting all mad, why not try to suggest a solution. There could be a higher fee to cast the spell depending on where you are. Thank you for pointing out flaws.

We have magical imp boxes, why make them even more useless?

A medium level depositing spell (75-85 magic) could be helpful, (3 law, 2 air, 2 cosmic), and change Pack yak's special so it sends 2-3 items instead of one. Imp boxes could send an additional 1-2.

Alright, I'll post the minimum required for it to be even thought of. 99 summoning, 99 magic on a Lunar spellbook, with a fee of at least 500k per item. Anything other then that would horrendously unbalance the game, and that alone ruins it for any sort of practical purpose. I see no way anyone could ever use this on a practical basis.

How do you make it send multiple items, and how is that any better?

Hate to break it to you, but Jagex already fixed this. It's common called the "Pack Yak". Take note of its amazing special: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Winter_Storage

Did you read the entire thing? You pay 5-10% of the price of the item as well as a flat fee that changes depending on where you are. I don't know where you got the 99 summoning requirement from, this is a spell that will allow you to trade with players far distances away.

3 law 2 air and 2 cosmic runes couldn't work. This would be in the lunar spellbook. It would need astral (spelling?) rune(s).

So, what's your proposed "fees" for areas? For high level players whos time is worth 2m+ an hour, it's worth hundreds of thousands of GP to bank, and anything less is a DRASTIC game unbalance. Are you jking with your 5 to 10% fees? A inventory of sharks is around 2k in "fees". Do you know how much that means to high level players? Hint: It takes us approx. 3 seconds to earn that much - it'll take many times times that just to do the trade.

Half an inventory of monkfish at a training spot that takes 5 minutes to bank at (your example) would require 167k in fees to balance out the time, roughly 4,600% in fees. So yes, if you have to pay five thousand percent in fees for usage it would be balanced for normal uses, not including fees. So to bank your inventory of rune scimmies, your going to pay roughly 3,400,000 GP to balance it against high level players. See the problem yet?

Hm... how about you pay 100000000% and everybody else pays nothing? Meh, I'm abandoning the idea.

They can't discriminate against players based on how skilled they are, and therein lies the problem.

Basically, anything that balances it out for high level players makes it absurdly expensive for everyone else. I can make almost 3m an hour through merchanting + TDs; my time is worth 15x what a newb who doesn't know how to earn money's time. If we're charged the same fee, either I benefit enormously or he is totally screwed. There is simply no way to balance it.

As compfreak said, there is no way to balance it. Beside it making no sense, you could end up trading for supplies without having to go back to the bank for a very long time. The need to bank frequently balances quite a few aspects of the game, eliminating that causes too many problems for what it's worth.

Yes, but imp boxes take ages to get, and they aren't stackable like runes are.

O.O

I don't support, but how do borrowed items disappear? It'd be the same thing.

Many believe that the 1980 eruption of Mt. Saint Helens was a catostrophic geological event, in reality it was the day that Jimi Hendrix returned to Earth from the next world and actually stood up next to a mountain and chopped it down with the edge of his hand.
