May 6, 200917 yr Ok, so my problem is that RS lags about 5 seconds straight every minute whenever I play. It doesn't seem to be affected by by the amount of programs I'm running, or if I'm playing in Standard Detail or High Detail. Also, what makes this even odder, only Runescape is affected by this lag. Nothing else is, not even streaming video/radio, etc. Just 'Scape. I asked this question before, and I was told to boost my RAM, so I tripled it (1 GB to 3 GB) but the problem remains pretty much the same. Any ideas on how to fix this? Here are my computer's specs, only change is the RAM which is now 3GB. Here's my internet's speedtest also. Any help is appreciated. May 6, 200917 yr somebody convinced you to triple your ram to play runescape, really? all i know is that there was an old bug with vista and java which would lag runescape- i believe it has been fixed if you have a very secure firewall, runescape actually has two ports on a firewall that can sometimes affect performance, try opening those. your connection seems fine and such. the problem probably lies within java. May 6, 200917 yr Author Well, I had been planning on buying more anyways, plus it was cheap, like $30. The Vista and RS bug sounds relevant, seeing as I onyl got the lag when I upgraded to Vista (but downgrading is not an option). Also, would you mind telling me how to open said ports? May 6, 200917 yr control panel, network settings, firewall... after there i'm not sure because it changes with vista however i was on windows 7 last night so i beleive you go to "allow programs (in firewall)" and there should be an option for making custom exceptions to your TCP ports. 4359443595/TCP = RuneScape what are you using to access internet? if your using firefox there are many, many ways to get it to run faster and customize it. May 6, 200917 yr Saying it's because of Vista is completely unrelated, or else most people that have Vista would have trouble like you. Also, for the ram, if you were on 1GB RAM and Vista, I can understand they made you upgrade de RAM, but you wouldn'T have needed to go over 2GB total though, but 3 is perfect. As for the friewall, we would need to know which firewall you use.

As for the friewall, we would need to know which firewall you use. saying that my accusation of 'vista' being unrelated is quite arrogant on your part. i know FOR A FACT that for the first few months of vista, runescape could not operate to the full 100%- my mom's computer at work could not fully play runescape, my friend anthony's computer could barely play runescape, and my uncles laptop could not run java whatsoever. this was a KNOWN and COMPLETELY relevant issue if he had an old, outdated version of java. just though i'd clear that up Staking: 4+ mil Current Status: Training defense
May 6, 200917 yr Author @noble_aloof Turns out I don't even have my firewall on. :-# makes note to turn it on So that's not it. And yes, I'm using Firefox the majority of the time for internet. @sbrideau2000 I wasn't blaming on Vista, just saying when that's when the problem started. Also, I realized I forgot to mention I have parental controls on my computer that limit some things, which I doubt is a problem, but throwing it out there if it turns out that may do something. Also, I have the latest version of Java at the moment, so that wouldn't be the problem either, I'm pretty sure. May 7, 200917 yr alright im a noob at java but heres what i'd recommend (oh boy pro programmer right here) 1. alright play a little rs.. while your logged on look for the java icon on taskbar, right click the icon and open the control panel.. see what you can do there (setting defaults and such) 2. now, right click again and open the java console. you'll get a list of commands similar to this: c: clear console window f: finalize objects on finalization queue g: garbage collect h: display this help message l: dump classloader list m: print memory usage o: trigger logging q: hide console r: reload policy configuration s: dump system and deployment properties t: dump thread list v: dump thread stack x: clear classloader cache 0-5: set trace level to i would hit L, S, T, V, and X... that looks promising i might be talking out of my [behind] here, but if i didnt have three tests tomorrow you can bet that i would look into it a little more. May 7, 200917 yr Can you increase Java memory on Windows? I did so on OS X 10.5 via the Terminal. I set the values higher than that of the allocated 256mb. The max was something near 350mb. This cleared up some issues when I occasionally played RS. That and since I got my new router (802.11n) my internet connection has increased dramatically.

Let's see how this turns out, I'll play again in a little after I eat, or possibly tomorrow depending on how late it is after I finish dinner, homework, shower, etc. I'll edit this in with results later. This cleared up some issues when I occasionally played RS. That and since I got my new router (802.11n) my internet connection has increased dramatically. Do you know how to do it in Win XP and could you tell me how? Nice new avatar btw =PWhen I did it, I followed an online guide with screenshots. However, I cannont find that site again, but here is an excerpt from another site following a similar step. I don't know how to do it under Windows, I'm afraid. Ooo, and thanks. :P I play Runescape all the time on Mac OS X 10.3.9 on an older G4 and now 10.4.5 on an iMac Core Duo. I have no problems on the G4, I can play for hours, leave the game at the login screen all day, come home and play some more all night. I did tweak the Java settings a bit to make it stop crashing from low-memory at first. HOWEVER on my new iMac Core Duo Runescape crashes repeatedly in Safari. I just read some Apple developer docs that say Intel chips don't handle overflowing arrays all that well, hmm. Guess what error shows up in the Console a few minutes before Runescape crashes on an Intel Mac? Error: 99205, -1024, 1, -65, java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -1024 An array out of bounds error - non fatal on a PowerPC CPU (I guess), but knocks the crap out of an Intel CPU, apparently. BTW here is the memory tweak for Java to better run Runescape: Open the "Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings.app" in the Utilities/Java folder. Add the following to the "Java Runtime Parameters" text box: -Xmx128m I use 128, but you could use 256 (megabytes) or whatever if you have gobs of RAM installed. This basically changes the Java app "heap" size to whatever you set it. Since I did this Runescape no longer crashes on my PowerPC G4. I tried this on the iMac Core Duo, tried using J2SE 5.0 v1.5.0 (Worst. Version. Number. Ever.) and Runescape still crashes a few minutes after the error above. *shrug*
